I have a 94 SHO, that i bought for $250, it had been sitting for six months, i put a new battery in it, and if fired right up, but it runs rough, the exhaust "pops" everyonce and a while, i have drained the old gas completely out of the car/system, and then put new gas in it with LUCAS injector/system cleaner..... it got a little better but still pops and when it warms up, and then it dies on idle, other than the little bit of rust, (From being on the east coast lol)

Check your exhaust, and see what condition the CATs and the Mufflers are in...the popping could be from no back pressure...Did you remember to load the system up after you installed the new battery to set the idle?

After sitting for an extended time, there is a good chance at least some of the rings are stuck, since these engines tend to get sticky rings anyway. Some autorx or seafoam may be needed to get them loosened up, or perhaps it just needs a good 2 hour drive.

And I agree w/ bubba - clean the mafs, change air filter, plugs, wires, etc. and pull the codes now that you have driven it a little and let us know what codes you find.

Head Gaskets rarely go on these motors.

Needs the top 60K maintenance done. The well seals are definitely needing to be changed if you have that much oil in the plug wheels.

Check out sho phoenix project. That website will walk you through on how to change them...If I can do it, so can you :salute:

agreed.... valve cover gaskets and plug well seals will take care of the oil in the wells. Make sure you take the oil out before removing the plugs.. If you don't you will smoke on start up!

Yup. I would give the car an upper 60K definetely. At least change the plug well seals. Easy to do. And change the Fuel filter too. That may be giving you some problems. Mine was bad and it was making my car "chug" under WOT. Or anything above half throttle actually. And cleaning the MAF does wonders. Seriously. Made my old SHO feel like a completely different car.

get some electronic sensor cleaner, take out the housing for the MAF or just take out the sensor and spray it off with the cleaner, its in a aresol can. and i got my valve cover gaskets and plug well seals for almost $100, OEM autolite wires for $89 all from advanced auto. pretty much same thing as autozone

That's because they are. Maybe "kit" threw them off?

Sixth one down: http://www.berrymanproducts.com/Default.aspx?tabid=138

Also, check your fuel pressure as well. The SHO has a Schrader valve on the rail so checking the fuel pressure is a snap; you just have to rent or buy a fuel pressure tester. Fuel pumps in Tauri of all flavors don't like to last forever.

One thing you need to learn before really engaging in maintaining the SHO is never, EVER go into a store without knowing exactly what you want, either by name or P/N. I know there are some knowledgeable auto supply folks, but they don't usually work at (insert random national parts supply franchise here). Ask here or visit www.shotimes.com, www.shophoenixproject.com or if you aren't in a hurry and it is Taurus specific, visit www.shosource.com, www.rcmautomotive.com, or www.shonutperformance.com and buy from there.

Check all grounds carefully. The ccrm must be functioning to make the fuel pump run, and the dis must be functioning to make spark, and both need to be grounded properly. A very common issue after top 60k service is a ground wire or two that has not been reattached properly.

Get electonics cleaner at Radio Shack; unbolt the 3 mounting screws for the MAF and remove from the intake assembly; remove the snap ring holding the MAF screen in place with snap ring pliers, spray the filament wire sensor and very gently use the soft brush on the end of the aerosol can to remove the dirt on the filament after spraying, and spray it down one more time.

check the under hood fuse box. one of those is for the fuel pump. when you turn the key to "on" you should hear the pump prime.

Your definately on the right path here. Just a little more and you'll surely have it running... just in time for another thing to break.

But eventually after many dollars have been invested, more than enough to make you totally committed to SHOdumb, then you'll be one of us for real.
