I just have a question that has been bugging me. I was reading the December 88 Car and Driver Magazine which featured the SHO. I paid special attention to Ford's SHO Ad. I just have one question. Why is it that a company can have so much pride in a car and then when you take it in for a recall they don't even want to work on it and tell you what a peice of garbage it is? Has this happened to anyone else? Just some food for thought.

P.S. I don't care what the dealer says, I still wouldn't dream of having anything else other than my SHO

Because car manufactor's will brag about how wonderful a new car is to get you to buy it. Anything for the sale. Then once production is stopped with that particular model, then those attitudes abound.

Personally, I think its "SHO ENVY". They all want one, but know they cannot handle the SHO. thumbs_u

Aspect is 1/2 right, they will say anything to make a sale, but the SHO cars are such a PITA to fix, they just don't want to!!! :p

On the mechanics who hate SHOS's:

They just havenb't driven one. They moved it from one lot to the other, and that was all. Then they had to replace the clutch. thumbs_u

I think it depends more on the tech and there are a bunch of real idiots out there (Guys who fix cars by throwing parts at them, etc. I can tell you some horror stories.) When you find a tech who understands the cars chances are he isn't scared and doesn't mind working on them. My guy says that they aren't that hard to work on.

When I went to the dealer for the subframe bolt recall, he said what a great car and I should hold on to it forever. Whewn I went to the same dealer for a CPS diagnosis (which he never fighured out) he said I shouldn't expect Ford to support a ten year old car.

Dealers, depends which day you go in, a good sales day or a bad one.

you are broaching human psychology now.

1, the 89 SHO is now a 14 year old car (late modely 88's). Though technically advanced for it's time...it is now merely an automotive oddity that is well...still a 14 year old car.

2, since your 93, there has been 2 more body style changes and the elimination of our SHO. Psychologically, even the 2nd GEN SHO appears old.

3, yes...the SHO is still a PITA to work on. weak trannies and a host of other gremlins contribute to a bad over-all image of the SHO.

4, though my car is pristine (as is your's, I'm sure)...I have seen many SHO's that are ready for the junkyard still on the road. This goes a long way to how one gets treated at any auto related service center. If you don't care..they don't care.

Now here's the scenario;

I show up with a $500 rusty and dirty 1989 Ford Aerostar AWD at my local FOrd Dealership. There's food stains on the ripped seats and piles of garbage on the floor.
My viscous coupling is broken and it is now dis-continued and extremely expensive anyways.

The appearance of my vehicle would tell the service advisors that I don't give a $hit about my ride but I want it fixed.

I fully expect to be treated like a yokel.

It's sad, I know, but long gone are the "good old days" when people actually gave a damn and did the best job they could.

FOrd sells hundreds of $50 000 Expiditions and Excursions everyday...why should they care about some person with a Absolutely mint 14 year old car that is still only worth $2000 max.

okay...end of rant...sorry about that..but you see my point?

My SHO is absolutely mint. Any time I show my face at the dealership, they scramble to help me because they know whatever it is I am there for, it is gonna cost HUGE FRIGGIN money...

funny u guys mention this. my friend just bought a brand new ford F-250 with the 7.3 liter turbo v8. The thing is sweeeet. It cost him 36,000. After he went and looked at it, he would call back and they would answer his call right away. he would leave messages and they would call him back right away. After he bought the truck, he called that same phone number because he had a problem with it and they wouldn't pick up the phone. He left 5 messages and they didn't return any of them. So he went in and yelled at them and they gave him some BS excuse. gotta love sales people.

The Ford Tech that does all the warrantee work on Karen's 99 loves the car. He came up to us the first time and said how good it sounded (removed 3rd cat and resonator and added edelbrock RPM's) and since then, I'll swing up with my car and he'll ask me how both are running, he's a sho-nut now, I got him on the bug. Once the bottle is filled I'm going to take him for alittle ride to finalize the ear to ear grin.
