I have a non plus sho...got a plus door to replace one of my rusty ones with....I can see how to remove the lower window moulding, but there still leaves the upper window chrome stripe that I dont like....how do I get that off? Is it just lipped into the black window seal or is it somehow bonded? I want to take it off without busting it.

Just the chrome strip can not be removed. Its part of the upper trim. Its pop rivited first to the door itself. You have to first remove or lower the whole rubber/felt window channel. To do that you almost have to dis assemble the whole door. I would just use some black-out tape.

Doh!

Acid, power sander, stripper, whatever, might work as well.

Otherwise maybe dynamite.

I would think painting somehow or using blackout tape like said above would work best. I think ohioshodude has swapped the regular trim to the plus trim so maybe he knows exactly what to do if you want to swap them.

seeing as how the door is pretty stripped down now and not even on the car, this may be what i have to do. black out tape...well, the doors will be mismatched. I have all 4 doors, so I could swap them all out, but one door is creased a bit and would be worse than my rust spot.

the plus trim is actually the regular taurus trim. the sho was unqiue in that it didn't come with the trim. to remove the trim all you need to do is remove the rubber surround that the window glides in, then just drill out the rivits.. the trim will fall off.. if its a front door remember the plus mirror and regular sho mirrors are different in the way they mount to the door and around the trim. something you can try is to loosen the black trim just enough that you can see the rivits, using a screw driver or something like a chisel just knock the heads off the rivits. they are really small and will giveway.. i've done this it works.. :thumb:

i dont think most people realize the 89-91 don't actually have trim they think its like the 94-95 sho's that have blacked out trim.

let me know if you need anymore ideas.

I was wanting to remove my trim from my GEN II, but I will have to replace it with black trim, which I do not have. May just have to paint it.

correction: 94-95. 93's still have the chrome.

correction: most if not all slo's have the chrome trim. SHO's have unique trim. in 94-95

you need 89-91 non plus SHO wiskers or 94-95 SHO wiskers.

sorry I was thinking SHO specific, 94-95 SHOs have the black trim, all second gen SLO's have the chrome trim. All first gen SLO's and SHO plus have the chrome trim. NON-plus first gen SHO's had no trim. Confused yet ? :nut

lol as minnesho posted as i was typing. hehe i'll just list this for future reference..

slo's have chrome trim. in 89 the sho got custom rear qt windows without trim, trim above the doors was removed and sho specific wiskers without chrome trim. the sho plus has the slo trim and tq windows (and unique mirrors).. in 92-93 all taurus has the complete chrome trim except wagons. in 94 the sho again got custom qt windows this time with black trim, the upper window was also unique to the sho and was blacked out as well. they used the black wiskers from the 89-91 sho's on the bottoms of the windows..

also after the 91+ model all sho's had the window pillars blacked out.. damn these ****'s are complicated. hehe

hope that helps.. anywhoo getting that trim the window slides in, out doesn't look easy but its possible.
