Hey folks, I just recently picked up my first SHO. Its a 95 auto, silver frost metallic and in near perfect shape. The car has 155,000 miles on it. Here are my questions.
1. 60k maintenance, what does this entail? I understand valve adjustments and a timing belt, anything else I should replace? Where do I buy the shims to do this?
2. Cams welded, I am assuming the gears are pressed on and dont have keyways? Where do they need to be welded, I can see that the timing belt runs off of only one cam gear per head.
3. Are the auto trannys reliable? I did alot of looking online and found multiple SHO's with manual trannys that needed replaced.
4. As far as a Cobra brake swap, what custom (if any) parts are needed?
I have the calipers and brackets from a 96 Cobra sitting in my storage unit.

Thanks for your input.

if the 60k has not been done recently this is a must. check out shosource.com, they have a rental kit for shim job. 60k also includes crank seal, cam seals, water pump, crank sensor, cam sensor, valve cover gaskets, (great time to clean up the intake). good time to change rob bearings and oil pan gasket. im sure i've missed a few things. the cams welding only needs to be done on the v8 sho's (96-99). never owned an atx, but i think they are pretty tough. not sure about the brakes. use the search button (helps out alot when looking for info) also welcome to the forum.

I think that pretty much covered it. Figure $500-700 for parts for the full 60k and rod bearings, depending on exactly what you buy. The first time you do it figure a full weekend. And make sure you have a good torque wrench and torque the bearings exactly as specified.

The 94-95 autos are pretty reliable, but anything can break.

Well that answers a few of my questions, it seems like I might as well plan on pulling the motor. Is shosource the only company left selling parts like this? I see the sho shop is no longer selling parts. Im no cheap ass by any means, but I cant see paying $700 right now after spending more than I should have on the car. I know I paid too much for it, but the owner seemed honest enough and from the looks of his home and other vehicles it kinda made me feel better spending a little more on a nice car.

700? pullin the motor? are we thinkin about the same stuff? a 60k is relatively easy to do with the engine in the car, as are rod bearings. in fact, the only reason i've ever had to yank an engine is due to a connecting rod wantin to experience daylight without waiting for me to come to a complete stop or remove the oil pan.

valve adjustments are over rated.
replace some gaskets like the intake set,WP housing gaskets, front main and cam seals.
then do your water pump,CPS,timing belt, rod bearings and your good to go.

Well I got under the car today and it definetly doesnt look as bad to pull the oil pan as I was intially thinking. I ordered most of the parts today, I will be ordering the valve tool and the shims from shosource. Thanks for the input so far guys.
