I recently acquired a new job. I now travel 180 miles a day for work. As luck would have it my son was shopping for a truck the same time. He was driving the starter vehicle my wife and I bought him when he got his licence. It is still in my name so I just gave him cash to help with down payment. He got a F-150. I got a commuter car.

Intense road noise and very uncomfortable. 2005 corolla. Great gas mileage and ice cold AC. I miss driving the SHO but I'm extremely happy not to put that kind of miles on it.:):) The best part is being able to work on mods without being limited to just weekends. I have a long list of mods I want to do. Now I can take the SHO apart for weeks at a time if needed.

Good luck with your new job, blast the cobwebs out of that Corolla! Any pics of the F150?

Always good to read another fellow SHO owner who understands the rarity and exclusivity of the SHO, and takes the necessary steps to remove it from DD duties.

Doing so will ensure it's continued enjoyment for many years to come.

Good luck with the mods!

I disagree to an extent.. It would suck to put 180 miles a day on my car, but I would be comfortable doing it, rather than in some uncomfortable tin can commuter car.. I didn't buy mine to let it sit. These cars are not that rare either.. I see them all the time.

I have close to 75k on mine. Tracked and daily driven (at one time). So to imply mine, or others like the OP's "sits" is not accurate.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to keep their's for years to come, and continue enjoying them.

If you wanna drive yours into the ground, the more power to you. But I'm confident there will be more of us desiring to hang onto them, then abuse the **** out of them til they fall apart.

Buying an alternative, albeit comfortable car that doesn't fall into the "tin can" category as you so eloquently state, can fulfill your daily commutes, while reserving the SHO for other more cool, and enjoyable trips, cruise nights, occasional runs at the track, etc.

Disagree all you want, but the production numbers have been low, and dwindling at that. They were never produced en masse, and with what appears to be their second demise now looming on the horizon, less and less will be seen.

Matter of perspective I suppose.

I said nothing about driving mine into the ground.. I bet there are more people than you think on here that don't plan on keeping theirs long term.. There are threads on here all the time of people trading up or out of the sho game..

Ok, there short timer.

I'll be sure to watch out for your uber high mileage for sale thread when you trade up yourself.

Good luck! :thumb:

180 miles p/day @ 365 days p/year = 65,700 miles annually. Give or take.

That's more mileage in one year, than I have on mine in nearly 7yrs of ownership.

That doesn't equate with driving it into the ground?

The only people you'll be bowing to, are your potential buyers. Lol.

Again, good luck.

Congrats for buying a beater car so the SHO can sit, and like the truck your son got too. I've owner all previous Gen's of the SHO and have never used them as daily drivers, all mine sit in the winter, never see snow or salt. Most "true" SHO owners have other cars for daily drivers, but in saying that there are some that have too drive them daily. Yes these cars are rare, but in some areas you see more than in others. Too each his own.

Drove my first SHO as a daily driver, 30K in one year, mixed city/hwy. So I'll sit quietly in a corner now, LOL! BUT soon after, I got a Saturn SW1 for DD duties, because I had to carry a bunch of equipment and it was easier to use a station wagon for that purpose. Fun car.

Congrat's on the commuter car!!! I would do exactly the same.

I daily drove an '89 and '93 into the ground. I miss both of them. Sadly, I probably wouldn't still have either even if I kept them for special occasions, but I sure appreciate those that do to keep some good ones around.

With the MKS, I just want it to last for monetary reasons. I'd like to get enough years of enjoyment out of it to help me financially move into the next car. I don't see any collect-ability value to an MKS even if it's an SHO under the skin.

"True" sho owners... Leave a 50,000$ car sit and drive a beater daily... Lol.. F that.. I wanted a nice big quick car to use as a daily... It's just a Taurus guys.. Not gonna be worth anything in 10 years anyway.. It's not Shelby... Look at the ones from the 90's.. They can be had pretty cheap.. I could have bought a 92 a couple months ago for 1500$ and I passed cause blue book was less.. Don't get me wrong I love the car.. But it's nothing special

I bought my 2016 sho for a dd.. Have owned it two months got 3600 miles on it.. My job is 70 miles round trip all hwy.. I wouldn't say they are rare but I don't see a lot of them in my area.. I see more Lincoln mks.. I do also own a 06 f350 6.0 diesel with 240 thousand miles that I'm going to drive more back and forth to work.. I just love this Sho right now and can't get out if it..

I am another one that doesn't drive mine daily. I do understand that they " might" never be a rare car but I have a f250 I drive daily to work. I actually like to keep mine very clean and tend to over care for any newer car I have and keep maintained well. When I bought mine I actually looked at another one that had quite a few miles less than mine but looked way more beat up..paint was chipped and car wasn't as clean. I knew whoever had mine before me took really good care of it so I knew id do the same. Now that was my choice and I couldn't blame anyone for using theirs as a daily as they are really nice riding cars. But also to add; lets just say I work in a highly undesireable area. :eeeeeek:

Looking at this thread tells me that we are all different in the way we look at our SHOs. Our needs and desires vary from one end of the scale to the other. Let's not exploit and belittle these differences. That's not what this forum is for. For me it was simple math. I can't buy new cars on a regular basis. Acually I can't buy new cars period. My money is needed for college tuition for my kids. My car didn't cost 50,000 it was less than 20. Yes I had to borrow money to pay for it and still owe on the loan. The math tells me my car will be junk before it's paid for if I continue to DD. It doesn't sit. I use it after work and weekends. Driving a Corolla to work is a small sacrifice and something I have easily adjusted to. I'm flexible. But I'm just different that way.:)

Well said mmh64. I can relate entirely

I will add though that, if I had bpd1151's car, I would not even consider daily driving it. Too many costly parts and too nice of a car to waste.

My biggest problem is the time and financial ability to care for the things I own as well as I'd like.

Before MKS purchase, I had:
Wife's 170,000 mile 2008 Honda Fit in garage
My 1990 Mustang in garage
My 2006 CVPI sitting outside

The CVPI had good paint, nice wheels, etc, but was a cop car, so whatever...outside it went.

Now I have:
Wife's 170,000 mile Fit outside
My 1990 Mustang in garage
My MKS in garage

It's killing me to have the Fit outside. We bought it new and it's in really good condition. Maybe time to sell the Mustang? When the wife decides to stop DD'ing the Fit and buy a replacement, it might just have to get a substantial motor upgrade :)
