The rod bearings are replaced as a precaution. Some last less than 100k, others will go 200k+. It's just better to replace them before one of them spins and ruins the crank. They're cheap and can be replaced without removing the engine.

As mentioned above, SHO's require a valve gapping and timing belt replacement every 60k miles. Try and find out if yours was ever done. Not many people know about this service(including Ford dealers) so it's rarely done. Plugs, wires, water pump, etc are usually replaced at the same time. www.shotimes.com has all the info you'll need.

The car has 126K, did I get myself into somethin huge or what, I really like the car and dont mind doing some work on it, but I dont want a money pit, I paid $2800 for it, was that too much? Im waiting for the old owner to call me back about a couple of the things you guys mentioned, asked him if he did the 60k service and was the valves adjusted, said he had paperwork and would call me back, im located in Vernon, Thanks

As of right now I'm located in Storrs, CT on the UCONN campus. Vernon is about 10 minutes away. If you'd like I can swing down and check the car out to determine what might need to be done as well as see if she's running like a SHO should be. Feel free to give me a call 203-305-4998
