When I am driving down the road, and take my foot off the gas to slow down the idle maintains it's speed as if I'm still pushing the pedal, until I touch the brake pedal and it then starts dropping to where it should be. This happened a few times tonight... What do you think would cause this? I am suspecting the IAC or Throttle position sensor, but I would like your thoughts and opinions too.

does the pedal return to the "zero" position when you take your foot off of it? if not then i would say check your accelerator cable and check the action of the butterfly on the throttle body (who knows, maybe it needs oil). if it does return then i would check the IAC and TPS. both simple and cheap items to replace (relatively speaking). i'm sure the other guys here will offer some more possibilities as well. as for the cruise cable sticking, i would imagine its possible, but i myself have never had the problem. good luck and let us know what happens.

Well... This is what happened tonight. I was out driving around, and it was working fine. I got home, and went inside to change for work. The car was still warm when I got back outside. I started it up, and it immediately went into a high idle. It stayed at 2500rpm's, and would not go down for nothing. I juiced the throttle a few times, but it stayed up. I killed the engine, because I wasn't about to put it in gear and hurt the tranny. When I went to start it again, the starter kept cranking and cranking... I let it sit for 10 minutes, and tried to start it again. It cranked a few times again, and finally came back to life. I am so ****** at this car right now madflame

P.S. I was cursing up a storm in the driveway, and failed to notice that the family of "Baptists" living next door to me was standing there watching me squint

The old grandma had her hand on her forehead, and I think she almost passed out pcorn

My cruise cable has stuck on my 90 at least twice. Both times it was at full throttle and kept the rpms through the roof. I had to shut down and disconnect it in the street. Maybe (and this is a big maybe) yours is sticking the throttle only partway open...though this wouldn't explain why it took so long to start. Try disconnecting it for a day and seeing if its any different. It's located on the throttle. Just turn the car off, push the throttle down and slide it off the little piece of metal its on. Probably won't make a difference but who knows?

If your car is idling high, it will not hurt the tranny by putting it in gear...that's what syncros are for, to get the tranny to motor speed.
But, it sounds like you need an IAC solenoid and/or IAB valve. If you are having starting problems, it is most likely the solenoid or a combination of the IAB and starter.
Also, check and clean your MAF.

Without codes, it is hard to speculate, but your problem sounds exactly like what my SHO was doing 2 months ago. I replaced my IAB and starter...no more hard starts or high idles.

Although, my car has always settled at normal idle only when I am fully stopped or coasting at low speeds, so I'm a little confused about your idle problem from your first message... if you drop to neutral when at 5000RPMs (or whatever engine speed), your engine STAYS at 5000RPM? And keeps pulling you along? 'cause that would be bad and most likely a bad TPS, throttle cable, throttle body problems, or stuck cruise control (but not likely if you are not having a problem stopping).

Hope this helps. I'll be looking for your codes.
