Well, the day before my wife and I left for our vacation in New Orleans we got rear-ended while in Chicago... Good news is we are both okay - the wife too a ride to the ER but all checked out fine. Just a bit sore the past few days. :frown:

The damage is pretty bad so they'll probably total it out. I'm waiting to hear back from the other guys insurance. It was obviously his fault - we were almost stopped at an intersection. Couple questions:

1) What should I use to get a good number for what the car is worth? Kelly's Blue Book, NADA, Edmunds? I'm sure the insurance co will try and lowball us.

2) The car was in pretty decent shape before the crash. Would it be worth it to buy it back from the insurance co. and part it out? It's a 95 ATX. The 3.2 might be worth something - right? Not to mention all the interior, Cobra calipers and suspension mods (Eibach's, GTP rear arms, etc).

Any other advice anyone has for a situation like this would be appreciated.

Looks like the new(er) car search will begin. I've been eyeing up the Lincoln LS (V8 of course) for a little while so I may go that route if I can find one with all the goodies.

Glad your OK.

If you ever re-buy from the insurance (if its totaled) youd prolly get a 1000-2000 $ in parts (ebay or here)

Good nice leather seats are worth alot on ebay.

Sorry about the accident :( Thats a bummer, glad to hear everyone is ok or going to be ok.

1. If you are looking for book value I would go with NADA, they seem to generally be a bit higher than the Kelley Blue Book.

2. If you can buy the car back for fairly cheap, you might as well part it out, you could more than likely make your money back and then some. Plus us forum patrons are always on the look out for parts so your car could still be doing some service instead of sitting in the junkyard.

Just my opinions. Once again glad youre ok thats the important part.

Good luck with your decisions.

glad your ok, id certaintly buy it back to take off the aftermarket stuff off, the trans and engine are worth some depending on milage, interrior etc. Maybe think about a gen 3 sho if you want something newer:thumb:

Bummer. Another one bites the dust. So glad you and the wife are OK, thogh.

Sounds like a nice one too. When were the mods done? Got receipts? In most cases they will add the price of mods or major repairs made within the last 6 months to whatever value you agree on. If you do go that way don't hit them with it up front. Establish value and buy back price first - then hit em with it - heh, heh.

I know with my insurance company I can influence the value of my car by bringing in ads for similar cars to illustrate what a fair street value is- blue/black book values are far lower than replacement. Then again I am dealing with a crown corp while you are likely dealing with a private company...

that'll buff out...

obligatory smart-alek post (i had to do it before someone else did)

looks like it was a nice sho. you should buy it back and part it out. rear enders are actaully great for parting things out because most of the stuff you want to sell is in the interior/front.

I appreciate all the condolences... Oh and I just loved the 'buff out' comment. Very appropriate for this time of year (look for Planes, Trains and Automobiles on TBS soon)...

I just got off the phone with claims adjuster. They offered just over $3k. Not bad I guess - it was on the high end of what I thought they would offer.

I also inquired about buying the vehicle back - only $300 to do so. The problem is getting the car back to Wisconsin. It's currently in Elgin, IL (~110 miles away). Would it be worth it to get a uhaul or something to tow it back and then part it out? I could use my wife Escape as the tow vehicle. What do I do with it after I've stripped all the useful parts off of it?

Or better yet - someone down in Chicagoland need a nice parts car?

I bring back mine with my 02 Exploder 4 L on flat bed with dualies.

i calculated about 5k pounds , and it was a 6 hours trip that took 9 hours.

That thing is quite heavy to pull. The poor thing hauled ass , and i was stopping often to let the tranny to let the heat out.

if you cant tow with your escape a 10 foot uhaul truck costs you 131.00 and a trailer (4 wheels off the ground) willcost ya 59.00. thats 190 to get it home, plus cost of gas and whatnot. still, buying it back for 300, ~250 to get it home, you can sell the parts for much more than that

I GOT F-ING REAR-ENDED IN MY 95 SHO YESTERDAY TOO -.-

I'm very sad, and sore, my neck hurts, doesnt look anything like that but the bumper is pushed in / cracked, doesnt seem to be any other damage than that, not sure about the frame, very irritating how people can drive like crap and hurt my beloved SHO
