My SHO has been down since october of last year due to a major converter fire.
Its a 95 ATX with 120k. It was put on the back burner due to events half way around the world.
It now has "custom" gutted cats, new cat-back exhaust (I just installed earlier today), complete upper 60k and every sensor changed down to the VSS.
Also had to repack and reboot the rt inboard cv-joint (made the mistake of popping it apart but managed to reassemble it). Intake was dissasembled and cleaned. I also installed a new set of Taylor wires and plugs.
Fired it up the first time yesterday. All seemed well except for this wierd "pop" out of the exhaust every once in awhile. Seemed like no big deal. It was intermittent. Didnt matter if it was idling or under load, it would just make a loud "pop" when it wanted to.
Today after I got the exhaust installed and started it the "pop" was beginning to annoy me. I assumed an ignition problem or a sticky exhaust valve.
I then remembered back to when I was installing the wires on the coil pack. I had a print-out from a 60k maint guide that showed the cylinder and coil-pack number assignments. I thought to myself " someone switched cylinders 5 and 6!".
So i installed according to the guide....
The "search" tool in this forum has been more valuable to me than anything through the repair of my SHO.
I found many posts about the coil-pack being mis-marked in many guides and books. Ran out a few minutes ago and switched wires 5 and 6 on the coil-pack and the thing purrs like a kitten with no "popping" at all!!
Just want to say thanks to the collective wisdom this forum offers to the SHO community! And thanks to all you that are willing to help! :thumbs_u:
