I remember a while back, a guy on here was planning a SHO implant into his 914 - went over to Tom's and took a bunch of measurements. I'm trying to refer back to it but can't find it ANYWHERE!

If anyone has documented this info, I'd like to recommend this be sticky'd so we can refer back to it.

I've got my DD SHO, but I'll be putting a 3.2 with an MTX into the back of something really cool... and it'd be great to have some measurements. The more the better - engine mounts, trans mounts, even subframe mount locations.

Thanks!

Agreed.

I've got a good 3.0L that I plan to put in a RWD chassis. Some measurements would make it helpful to rule out any cars before purchasing.

Well, I've got enough engines up on stands in the shop I should be able to get each dimension from a different engine...

But before I do, let's get a list together of what exactly everybody wants.

And I still think we need a FrankenSHO subforum. These engines have been put into so many different vehicles, it would be nice to be able to see it all in one forum.

SEE POST 21 for a good start on dimensions.

I've always wanted to use it as an inboard in a 14' Jon boat. Make it only two passenger. It probably wouldn't be fast but it would be neat. Could you imagine screaming up the river with an open header yamahammer screaming off of the river banks?

I asked about this in the forum feed back section ( starting a engine swap section ) most thought it was a good idea but nothing ever became of it.

I kid you not, this is what happened to me the other day:

I was on the highway, and saw someone towing an old worn out looking boat, that was mostly stripped down. It was one of those inboard/outboard types, but the motor was gone.

My first thought: "Hmmm, I wonder how awesome it would be to toss the SHO engine in that thing, with a set of Individual throttle bodies and open headers..."

I told my wife when I got home. She thinks I'm crazy...

:)

Haha, that's awesome! I grew up on the river and I've had this idea for 5 years or so. I don't think it has enough torque to be fast, but enough cool to make it worth it.

I also think a sho engine would be awesome in a trail buggy like what the use for rock crawling an such.

Tom - somehow I knew you'd be a willing participant. :salute:

In my opinion, this would be useful (the more the better):
Outside dimensions on each side/corner. Width at cam covers, length from bellhousing ****** to front timing case, height from oil pan to top of intake.
Bolting dimensions - engine mount locations. Bolt pattern at the bellhousing (not trying to horn in on the adapter plate biz ;o).

I tried to attach a picture of an example, but it will not allow it for some reason (and ony 29KB)!

I've seen your suggestion for a FrankenSHO subforum - P E R F E C T!

We all know that these engines will live on in infamy, long after our Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars bite it!

Thanks.

No kidding. If I hadn't sold my notch back mustang, I would seriously consider it! It'll fit... that guy just didn't try hard enough! :nut:

I'll be working on this 'FrankenSHO' forum idea... my brother is a wiz at websites, so we'll see how quick I can get this together.

Anyone with a SHO motor in something else, please feel free to PM me any info., links, etc... and I'll start compiling. I do know about all the ones within the first few google search pages - but there are plenty of others out there (I PM'd a guy who's got one in the back of his kit car - no response yet, but it looks to be freakin awesome!).

hi

this is my first post on the forums

im in the process of gathering parts for an SHO swap on my 91 ford probe LX with a five speed, i would also like to know if you guys had all the outside measurements for the engine, for example taking measurements around it as if we are trying to fit in a box as well as the position of the bottom engine mounts.

another measurement that would be helpfull for everyone that is thinking of getting this engine into a different car, would be the measurement of the engine with the exhaust manifolds attached to the engine.

in my case the excuse of swamping an sho in the probe is that the 3.0 vulcan eats gas like there is no tomorrow. and besides the sho engine looks AWESOME

I picked up an SHO a while back, and pulled the motor with the intent to never put it back in a Taurus...

I recently picked up an E30 BMW 325 that I plan to put the rebuilt motor in. It's a very long-term project, as I have to rebuild the SHO motor first, and am also driving the car to get a feel for anything it might need.

Progress will be slow, but I'd be happy to document the build and put it up for anyone who'd be interested...

Sounds great, Mike. I'm in your neck of the woods once in a while - so maybe I could check out the progress and/or lend a hand.

Funny enough, I might be picking up a buddy's 325 this spring, and thought it'd receive the SHO motor quite well!

the SHO engine has been transplanted into gen1 Probes before - its a little cramped, but do-able. iirc, there needs to be a little surgery on the left inner fender to allow space for the trans, but otherwise is reasonably straightforward.
