I am pretty positive that there is no "SHO only" book. I have the Helm book and a Chiltons, has everything I need.

I have the red Ford book for my 89. Great reading, the only thing is, it excludes basics that a trained mechanic may know, but I haven't the slightest clue about.

Rob,

The definitive source for OEM specifications is the "official" Ford Workshop Manual, published by Helm. Each manual is model, and model year, specific, for example Taurus and Sable 1990.

To complete the service manual you need to check into Technical Service Bullitins (TSBs), and recall information for the pertinent model year.

The service manual clones, such as Mitchels, Motors, Chiltons, Haynes, etc. are OK.

The private publication, "How to Understand, Service and Modify Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control", by Charles O. Probst, SAE, is great for EEC diagnostics and repairs.

It covers 1988 through 1993 specifically (including the SHO system), but includes some information for a few additional years. It is about $22 through Amazon.com.

I have also been looking for a SHO specific book for a few years. If you find one let us know! rangerj

SHO & Vette,
T, if you read this a light should go on, figuratively speaking.

Shojaun,

Isn't the SHO Engine and Drivetrain Manual from Helm a suppliment to the Taurus/Sable Shop Manual?
The later Shop Manuals, 90 and up, include the SHO information. This is my understanding, it this correct? Thanks, rangerj

Yeah, for 89 all the regular taurus stuff is in volume 1 and the SHO specific stuff is in volume 2.

The helms is what you need. It's got near everything including a step by step on how to remove the entire engine. You can even laugh at the 3.8L head gasket blower motor in there as well. Since the taurus also came with the 3.0L vulcan motor that's in my tempo, the taurus book covers that as well. How convenient eh?
