Driving home from work just over an hour ago, 25 miles from home, 10 below zero out, oil pressure light came on. Pulled over, all I can see is that it seems to have blown all its oil out the front of the engine somewhere.
I'll have it towed home tomorrow, might get a chance to look at it this weekend.

I'm really getting fed up with this car. Every time I turn around it needs something else. Once I figure out the oil thing, I'll probably just trade it in on some cheap piece of crap just to be rid of it.

I know right?! 20 years old is nothing, these cars should still be perfect. /sarcasm

I'm curious to see what let go, besides throwing a rod I've yet to see such a drastic oil loss so quickly.

To dump all its oil it would have to be a failed oil filter or possibly oil cooler. Let us know what you find. Hopefully its just a simple as replacing the filter.

PERFECT?? I'd settle for semi-reliable!

I don't really know how long it took too dump the oil. It still sounded fine when I shut it off.

When I said front of the motor, I didn't mean the side towards the radiator, I meant the side where the front cover is, sorry for the confusion.

I just changed the oil and filter on Sunday, everything seemed normal then. My GF drove it yesterday, parked it over fresh snow last night, there were no oil spots when I moved it this morning.

It's possible your crankcase ventilation system is blocked. That would build up pressure in the crankcase, vomiting your oil out in an ugly frenzy.

With the hood up looking at the engine, there is a rubber hose at the right-hand side of the crankcase going into the engine air intake. With the engine running, remove the hose at the crankcase size and check for vacuum. No vacuum = crankcase pressure buildup.

Personally, I vent that to the air with a filter. Engine runs cleaner, better gas mileage. Pollutes the air with the faint aroma of oil, but hey, it's better for my car. I'm going to install a draft tube.

Could be a bad crank seal. I would expect to see some signs of impending doom, but with its age, and the extreme cold, it simply could have been pushed out of the oil pump, due to some CCV issues.

Whatever it is, we know one thing, it is your girlfriend's fault!!! At least that would be the case here in Minnesota!!.

Tried to start it yesterday. Turned over ok, put wouldn't pop off. Acts like it doesn't have any spark. I wonder if the cam sensor got oil-fouled?

I think with a bad cam sensor, it will still start in about 1 out of 3 attempts. If I remember correctly, it is because 2 plugs fire at once, and the crank position sensor fills in the data when none comes from the cam sensor. It gets it right in about 1 out of 3 cases (6 cylinder).
Not positive about this, but seach this to confirm, and I would look elsewhere for the issue.
Do the fuel pressure thing; but if it is totally dead, the crank position sensor is a better bet.

sperold is correct - the pcm just guesses if there is no cam sensor data. also, if there is no cam sensor data, there is no movement of the tach, so if the tach moves during cranking then it is unlikely that the cam sensor is the issue.

Any conclusion? Because it does sound like a cam seal from what others are saying with the combination of the cam sensor issue.
