SHO 1st drive on Inside Line from Edmunds

Just found a 1st drive article for the 2010 SHO on Inside Line from Edmunds. Here's a link. They also show some photos that is very similar to those shown elesewhere on the forum. Here's an example:

This is the a very similar article to the AOL Autos article posted previously. It was actually a first ride, not drive too.

It actually posts the weight in the article: 4,368 lbs, with the Track Pack.

on an average track like say, Limerock or so, I'd bet $100 a stock gen1/2 on stock sized R comps would be quicker on lap time than the new SHO on it's stock sized tires (also on R comps). any brake pad and high temp fluid allowed.

I will offer then GEN II, and take you up on that $100 (it is a stock 94 ATX).

Well at least the new SHO has 255/45R19's stock. The Track Pack 20's are actually 245's, but on Eagle F1 tread over the Michelin All seasons on the 19's. I know the gen 1 weighs 1000lbs less than the new one, but it sounds like Mrs. Rodriguez has got the suspension pretty well tuned and the extra 145hp doesn't hurt either.

When I first glanced at that I didn't realize it was moving...and I thought that the wheel gap on the new SHO was horrendous. It's not so bad once I realized it's almost airborne.

the spec miata record at pretty much any track is faster than any SHO is going to go. limerock is pretty similar to most regional tracks.

maybe we can talk kirk into bringing his to RA in the fall. This would be easy to do, set up the hot lap timer during a Chin weekend event.

I think the spec Miata record at RA is 1:44.xx

I could do about 1:45(ish) in the black 89, I did a best of 1:47 in the 92 with a 200 lb passenger with a 3.2L/quaife, suspension, etc.

1:50 in a stock MTX on R tires would be pretty good. And sub 1:50 in a 4,600 lb anything is gonna be pretty stellar.

About that bet on the previous SHO VS the Gen IV.

I'll take that bet. Even give the older version the race tires, but everything else stock.

Remember the new car has vastly improved suspension, ALL WHEEL Drive and some well sorted nanny electronics to even out the driving skill, but assume both driven by a good semi-pro/pro driver.

Well, the huge gorilla sitting in the room is the ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE extra horsepower plus the turbo's giving it 350 lb ft from any range of rpm off idle! Yea, there is an extra 700 or so pounds, but that takes away only about 1/2 the HP gain, that leaves 70+ to get down the track, plus the car will corner well, and brake well with AWD. And when you get around that corner, the new car will rocket away from the old one with authority.

I have felt the power, and no stock SHO EVER felt this way.

So don't be so anxious to make that bet unless you want me to use it to buy a round at the next convention!

Don, this is shaping up to be a really good comparo/article for the club mag, 1st issue after the new SHO hits the streets Old meets new.

So you are gonna spot a gen1/2 MTX race tires and run the new SHO on streets? wow. I say equal rubber, otherwise you are just comparing tires.

I am up for making this happen, let me know how I can assist. We can even do a "video mag article" of the story. I think it would be a lot of fun.

I have personaly watched drivinhard spank many Corvettes, Miatas and a couple Lotus Elises at a time trials at Lime a few years ago, in a somewhat lightened Gen I w/3.2 and Quaife. IIRC he came in second or third overall that day out of maybe 70 cars competing. Of course the track has now been reconfigured so maybe the lighter cars would stand a better chance.
