Hi there

I just bought a 94 ATX. This is my first SHO, and its awesome! I have a problem with the tranny though. It shifts at 3k RPM no matter how much gas you give it, and it doesnt downshift when you step on it at. It goes through all the gears, no slipping, and if I put it in 2nd it will stay past 3k rpm, and also with the O/D off.......any thoughts? VSS maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum!

Pull the pcm codes and report what codes you find.

I have no check engine light at the moment.....also i dont know how to pull codes. the light was on until today as a matter of fact. I added Lucas tranny conditioner and it seemed to help the smoothness of the shifting, but like i said no check engine light now. How would I pull codes..

There still could be codes.... just because they don't show up doesn't mean there is any!....

I have also heard that i should use synthetic tranny fluid, not the dexron with the additive to make it mercon......that is what the previous owner used, the dexron-mercon fluid NOT synthetic....any thoughts are greatly appreciated, i just want it diagnosed so i can fix the problem. i really dont think it is a mechanical issue within the tranny. What synthetic should i use when i make the switch next week?

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and my transmission has about 280k on it and still shifts perfectly. The last time I flushed it and changed the filter was over 100k ago. I'm actually about to do it again. The Mobil 1 is expensive but definately worth it. If you do use the Mobil 1 I would do a complete flush, I wouldn't mix it with what you have in there already.
