Everything was fine, till the other night.

Now shifting into first at a dead stop is getting harder and harder, second as well. Once the car is moving it seems to shift just fine. With the car off, it shifts cleanly as well.

I have a spare tranny and engine but didnt want to have to rebuild it just yet..

Any thoughts???

PS, Im no mechanic so please keep this in mind when replying, remember "laymans terms"--- LOL

I have the same issue going on right now (a little). And I had a similar issue some time ago (~40K ago). What was discovered the last time was that the quill sleave was not anchored suffeciently and when it moved it would prevent complete disengagement (not knowing the internals of the MTX very well I don't know how to describe it beyond that.

Suffice it to say, I had a trusty Trans Shop pull the MTX put in another new clutch and GLUE the quill onto the shaft and I have been shifting with ease for 40+K miles. I can still get it into first at a standstill by working it back and forth in 2-1-2-1 or stop the rotation with 3-4-3-4 then slip it into 1, or reverse. And I know exactally what you mean about it being real pickey when its at a dead stop.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump to the conclusion that it's the tranny.

You may find out like me that you're going to do all that work and still have issues if you just change the tranny.

Sounds like the clutch isn't fully disengaging.
