Does anyone know if MTX shifter threads are the same as any year mustang shifter? Pics of different shift knobs on MTX shifters, anyone?

I don't have a picture, but I installed an aluminum **** on mine — the threads were too large, so I installed an allen head screw (with the help of a drill press) to lock it onto the shaft.

Havn't had any problems with it coming loose ever since cranking it on there — granted, I may have flattened some of the threads on the shifter rod.....

I have an all aluminum shifter from mustang and it fits just right. It's a UPR shift ****. I'm pretty sure any shift **** from a 87-06 mustang should fit on a MTX. Mines fits but it is a little short and sits higher than the the MTX ****. Hope this helps you.

They're very close. I had a round Mustang aftermarket Steeda shift **** on my GenI. If it needs to fit exactly to keep the **** facing one direction or to line up the shift gate pattern I'm sure you could monkey with the threads just a bit to line it up.

I have the shift **** off a Bullitt Mustang it fits except I can't get the shift pattern to face the right direction. Looks sweet though with my black interior.

There are some reproductions that look oem but have a tightening allen head screw. You could modify yours like awb85 posted. Might be worth the effort to have it sit correctly.

I had a Bullitt Mustang shift **** on my old '90 SHO, and was able to get the shift pattern corrected by using a couple of lock washers on the threads under the ****! It does look sweet with the black interior, no doubt! You'll have to do some experimenting to get it right, but it will work!:thumb:

The bottom of the **** doesnt meet with the boot, but I like it like that. Man I need a new boot.

Someone here did install a 05-06 stang one , looks freaking awesome. I wonder if its a bolt on tho.

Are there pictures of that on a SHO anywhere? I might go with it. Either that or do what nik97 is going to get and possibly get a '99 cobra shift ****.

I have a leather 00-05 Mustang shifter **** in my '90. On the stock shifter I had to cut down the threaded part about 1/4" to get it to screw down all the way.

If the leather on your SHO **** is AFU...use one of your old ladies retired black leather purses and stich up a new cover...I've done this twice and it seems to get easier each time. Results are VERY acceptable.

I also have a Contour/Focus **** that I use sometimes.

Usually I switch between stock and a **** I got out of an 80something VW. The VW **** is plastic, but I love the shape of it. It's a rounded ice cream cone shape(best way I can describe it).
