Shaking SHO

Well, my SHO shakes a lot while driving 65 mph and above. It is NOT when I apply the brakes. It is when i'm driving at a constant speed. The steering wheel shakes a lot and so does the dash and the seat. I checked my outer and inner tie rods and they were both bad so I decided to replace both. I did both sides, both inner and outer. I had it realligned and had the front two tires balanced. Took it back out on the road. STILL SHAKES!!! GRRRR. I don't know what else it can be. The rotors and pads are brand new. The tires are brand new also. (The car shook with the old tires too). I am not sure what else I can replace. Anyone know? Thanks.

Unless you balanced your tires yourself, I would not trust that that are truely balanced. I found all 4 of my wheel out of balance after they had just been done by Discount Tire Co.

have you checked your lower ball joints ( control arm) ?? maybe they have the play on it that makes your car shakes. check those and see if that's the problem that makes your SHO shakes..

Well, if it was a bent rim, being as I have swapped tires from front to back, wouldn't the shaking then transfer to the rear? So that is why I am ruling out a bent rim.

I have not checked my lower ball joints but that will be the next thing I do. Would this really cause a lot of shaking?

I have had my tires balanced 3 times now......could different people each time possibly be screwing it up?

I'd check your wheel bearings as well.

For there to be a shake that matches the frequency of the rotational speed of the wheel, there has to be a dynamic imbalance or non-round condition in the wheel and tire assembly. Loose or worn suspension parts can allow the amplitude of the shake to be greater, but they cannot create an imbalance.

Have you had the tires checked for runout? How are they mounting the wheel on the machine to balance it? The slicers are hub-centric and the centering cone must be mounted from the back (inboard) side of the hub - not the easier outside approach.

Well, i have the old basket weaves on my SHO. Does this matter?

No. They are hub centric also.

I would check the wheel bearings and the subframe bushings. I have had bad sfb's in the past(on other Taurus') and when I replaced them, the vibration went away.

Scott has a point - the vibration is not caused by anything but the wheel assembly (Tire, rim or drive line) On that note the other thing it might be a CV Axle that is bent, bad or inbalanced.
