Ok,Ibelieve I belong here. I just bought a 1997 SHO with about 131200 miles on it.I just got it Friday and this evening, that damn yellow "Service Engine"Light came on. I noticed this weekend that the rmps would shift every now and then about 50-200rpms randomly.I thought that is due to the tranny needing some fluid or is this something else?I believe I heard a slow hissing sound when I popped the hood ,with the engine running,when I pulled into the driveway. Is this a sign of the great cam-death?I know nothing of the maint.history other than the car was from Ohio originally and then made its way to Florida and that the entire car even the leather interior to the exhaust manifold are spotless. My plan is to let Advance Auto Parts read the Ob-II code tomarrow afternoon and judge from that verdict. I need some help or speculation as to what is my ailment.I am trying to get a Carlos Leon in South Florida to get may cams welded a.s.a.p. because I do not know about the maint. cant help you without the codes... but its probably a miss which is probably a bad coil

I'm going to guess you get a P1744

Let us know what code it is, and the rpm fluctuation is probably the AC TC lockup going down the highway.

You guys are awsome!Carlos Leon just called so Im whisking the SHO hopefully away soon to get that camweld!I'll check that code and with a prayer and half a wing the SHO will come through until Sunday.---Im praying!!!damn those FORD cams to the 7 layers of ****!--Alaric

Dang, another light came on! it read out the code for engine misfire cylindar8.
I'm going 200 miles to melborne Sunday to get my camweld.Will this misfire harm the car greatly?I'm sure its probably a coil thats going.Should I replace just the Cylander 8 coil or all 8 of them?Thank you very much!--Alaric

if its a real bad miss and the engine light is flashing, turn the car off unless you wanna buy a new catalytic converter (these cars have 3 so dunno how that would work)

a slight miss shouldnt harm it too much, is cylinder 8 one of the fronts? if so just change out the coil before you go

get a spark tester and put it on the coil on cylinder 8, if its not firing its a bad coil, if it is firing it could be a fouled plug (most likely) or an injector issue

ya i live in canton, got any pics of your car? i see a gen2 in you sig, but im assuming you have a gen3 cause your talking about 8 cylinders lol

#8 is on the front side of the motor to the far right. That should take like 2 minutes to change.

The GEN 3 will turn off the fuel injector for the cylinder missing if the miss is to bad.
