So I just bought a 97 Sho, I love it so far, but as I was on my way home from picking it up the gas light came on then about 30 secs later the service engine soon light came on. I thought it was just a warning about the gas level but then I got gas and it stayed on. It flashed like 6 times then stayed on, the car didn't run any diferntly. Could it just need an oil change or something. My friends mom's comes on when she needs an oil change. Can i flash the code.

thank you

Pull the battery cable off for about 5 minutes the reconnect, this will clear the light. If it comes back take the car to AutoZone and have them read the code.

The SES light on the Gen IIIs is the same as the Check Engine on the older ones.

The boys at AZ over on Lindberg can read it for you. Just be sure to write down the codes, then come back here and post them for diagnosis.

I just re-read your post and saw that you were on the way home from picking it up when the SES light came on.

I would return it to the selling dealer (if applicable) for checkout and repair. If it was from an individual, you may be out of luck.

If you can't get it dealt with by the seller, feel free to e-mail me. I can read the OBD-II codes with my notebook/interface/software and I'm probably no more than 10 minutes away.

Thanks Steve, I bought it from a dealer but he is more than 3 hrs away. I contacted him he tried telling me some story I told him if he didn't pay for it to get fixed I would report him so he is supposed to call today, I will go to AZ when I get home from school today around 1. Will AZ know were to hook up the scanner at or not!

I went to autozone and had the code flashed and it read 307 and he said that it was a bad plug or wire on cylinder 7. He said I should give it a tune-up!

Proof why I say not to let the drones at AZ diagnose the codes.

The code should have been in the format of PXXXX where the XXXX is a 4 digit number.

Looks like either an invalid read or an transcription error.
