alright....driving down the road on the expressway and my SES light comes on in my 96...JUST had the oil changed and all the fluids filled up so i have no idea what this could be....I mentioned to my wife a couple days ago that the car felt "funny" By funny i mean when the car is idling every once in a great while the car ******...NOT often at all though...so anyways today i get it home and pop the hood and remove the Panel that says SHO 32 Valve V8 on it....there is oil or some fluid all over the right side of it underneath..also i listened to the engine and it sounds like there is a thumping noise on the left side over by the engine coolant tank...NEVER noticed it before....what is wrong with my SHO???? We do have 2 cars so i wont drive it until i can get it somewhere to be looked at....my low coolant sensor is bad so i couldnt tell if it was really low or not...shouldnt be because supposedly they filled them up! One other thing that might be totally not related to my current problem...but today when idling in drive i spint he steeling wheel and it like growls...Shouldnt be low power steering fluid because they filled that too! also could never tell if it was low or not even if it was....TOTALLY car-illiterate! The coolant looks full all the time because i can see fluid(green) allt he way up on the side when i look at it....PLEASE Help!! also Autozone said they wont be able to find anything wrong if the CHeck Engine light isnt on...they only deal in that! NOT Service Engine Soon light

and before anyone asks the cams have been welded by Kirk himself! so that cant be the problem! Thanks

Hi,

The "Check Engine" and "SES" lights are the same thing as far as I know...

AutoZone should have no problem scanning the codes for you.

Correct, any AutoZone monkey should be able to connect their $90 Actron code reader and pull any stored codes, even if the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp, the "technical" name for Check Engine, Service Engine, etc. warning lights) isn't lit. Done correctly, the MIL will stay illuminated before and throughout the process unless the monkey tries to read the codes with the engine running and there are only memory codes which don't flip the light.

My apologies to Dale and any other 'Zoners out there. You know who the monkeys are since you work with them every day, so don't yell at me for calling them monkeys!!! :nut:

alright....went to AutoZone like everyone told me too...they rant he codes and it is a Cylinder 6 Misfire....so i figure alright spark plugs or wires....go to price a set of wires and found out our cars dont use wires...they plug right straight into the coils...ouch! How much will this set me back...each coil is 71 bucks! Hopefully it is just my spark plugs and not my coils....is it alright to drive it like this? With the one misfire will more start to misfire????? and finally i think im gonna replace the front four spark plugs myself...they are easy for me to get too...if that fixes the problem...well **** yes!! now my last question is what order do the cylinders go in? those front four...are they 1, 2, 3, 4?? and the other 5, 6, 7, 8 cylinders are they in the back?? If thats the case then my number 6 cylinder is in the back in that hard a$$ to reach spot....

Anyone know what this would cost at a repair shop to get them changed??

and the BEST spark plugs on the market performance wise for our cars is?? Part number??

Thanks!

You will need to replace the coil. Cyl. 6 is in the front bank:

FIREWALL
1234
5678
RADIATOR

Should only take you about 10 mins total to change it. Since the PCM has the code, it won't be firing the injector for that cylinder until the code is cleared, so you can drive it like that if you want but I'd still say replace it as soon as you can.

How long ago were your cams welded? If under 30K miles or so you really don't need to worry about the plugs since brand new ones were installed at the same time as the welding. If over that mileage, the only plug you should use is the Motorcraft AGSF32FM, about $4 each at AutoZone.
