Your cable is probably frayed just inside the IRMC box. This prevents it from completely retracting and making the switch inside. With the switch not made and the IRMC commanded off then it sets the code.

No gaskets are really needed as all the metal gaskets can be reused with a coating of fresh paint just prior to installation. Brake cleaner or Berrymans or paste type paint remover all work well in cleaning the carbon off the parts.

Haha... it's hi-temp aluminum tape. I snapped that shot before the rest of the wiring looms were double wrapped.

Throw out the IMRC--it does nothing for performance or fuel economy and you don't need it.

I second that. I have the butterflies out and the shafts too. The shafts alone are 3 sq"of surface area; directly in the intake path.

But to turn a draw into a gain from this you need to modify the fuel trims for WOT below 3k rpm.

I love where this thread is going, as I'm another 1518 victim.

My car runs fine, not sure why after I paid a dealer to clean the butterflies and de-carbon the intake. I think my secondaries are stuck open.

I'm planning on a weld in the next few weeks. Would this be a good time to disconnect the IMRC and remove the butterflies?

thanks,
rickshaw

Seldom are they really stuck open. It is just the cable not retracting the last 1/8" that sets the code.

There is a pretty heavy spring on the secondaries that will keep them shut when not commanded on. You can also look at the linkage and see if they are open any when the car is off.

Well if there's no real advantage to having the IMRC working how hard was it to fill the shaft holes in the lower intake. Also how about the fuel programming you talked about Paul under 3k at WOT. XCAL 2?

Just wondered. Ive been meaning of painting the entire intake and valve covers and this would give me good reason to tear it all apart again.

I filled the shaft holes with some red hi temp silicone.

The programming will have to come from a chip or the Xcal2. But it is only the WOT fuel values. You really aren't below 3k that long at WOT though.

Well if the aftermarket won't do anything for us, it's up to us to come up with the mods.

I'll quit when I get rid of the car. :nut:

Still say the best performance mod one can do on the V8 is some tuning software, flasher and a wide band O2 sensor.

Under a grand and it makes all kinds of things possible.
