Hello everyone. I am a long time lurker first time poster! Been enjoying this forum for some time and I have finally aquired an 89 with a 3.2 conversion. It is MTX and in pretty good shape and came from an ex-enthusiast. I am in the throes of doing all the maintenance. THe only thing I need help with at the moment seems to be the secondaries. I think they are supposed to open at 3950 RPM. Mine seem to open about 1000 RPM later than this. My car is a bit sluggish until it gets about 5000 or so RPM. Is this normal? THe plugs and wires are not that old and I just replaced the fuel filter and put in a new KN panel filter. Anything I should be checking? Thank you gurus!

You can see the exact opening by popping the hood and watching the back actuator arm. If they are opening late, I would check for an LPM. It could be programmed that way.

I have seen a 89 with the tach of that much. Run it to the limiter and see what RPM it is. You can also look behind the glove box and see if there is a chip installed in the back of the computer. If there isn't anything there I would suspect the tach error.

Thanks!

Thank you for all your suggestions. It doesnt have a chip that I can see. I received a Mark VIII MAF free with it (uninstalled). Does anyone know how to install this correctly and have it sync up with the EEC IV thing properly? Cheers again everyone!!

In order to use the maf you would have to run an LPM or tune it via a tweecer. Without tuning it will not run right.

Thank you again for the reply. I see SHO source has these. Are these worth getting in your estimation? This is my first SHO and I am learning as I go. Love it so far though.
Thanks.

I'd check your fuel pressure for the sluggishness you discribe, especially if your still on the factory pump.
As far as the MAF goes, save your money an keep the stocker.
These cars won't gain anything from a maf upgrade until you have alot of work done.
