Hey, I thought while I am replacing my radiator, why not change that pesky front motor mount that is broken?

I got to searching the forum and have not found where anyone has detailed out how to change a front motor mount on an ATX. I went to SHO Phoenix site and they have a tutorial how to change the front mount on an MTX.

Do you have to loosen the rear motor mount, and trans mount, to jack the motor up a little bit to get the weight off of the front mount so you can get it out??

What size socket for the bottom of the mount? I haven't torn into it yet, been raining a lot here, classes, work, etc...

IS THERE any way someone could do a thorough step by step on changing the front motor mount in an ATX????

Help is appreciated, :thumb:

I gotta go to an appointment, but if you give me 'til this evening I will write up a guide for you. I've done it twice.

the quick: no, you don't have to remove or loosen other mounts to get to the mount. It's actually very easy, if somewhat time consuming. Remove the lower rad hose (this means you have to drain the coolant), and I think it's 17 or 19mm on the bottom, and 13 or 14 on the top two. Getting the top two out is what will take most of your time. They're hard to get to.

That works, I can wait that long.

Not a big deal about draining the coolant as I have to get the radiator either fixed or replaced anyway, and was planning on replacing all the coolant hoses at the same time.

Remove radiator first!

1. Remove bottom nut (21mm)
2. Support engine with a suitable device (Jack, etc)
3. Remove top 13mm bolts.
4. Remove mount.

Install in reverse order.

It will be a ton easier with the radiator removed, trust me. It can be done without, but you'll add a few steps to the above.

Yeah, I suppose it can. I never thought of removing the radiator when I did mine. It would be a heluva lot easier to get to those top two bolts!

Eh, considering what happened to me before, I consider replacing motor mounts pretty important. I still don't know how my throttle cable got snagged when the engine tilted forward on my old one. It was scary though.

Thanks James. I have to replace the radiator anyway, it decided to let go on me early Tuesday morning of this week when it was 21 outside, while warming the car up. There was a nice antifreeze mess on the driveway. YAY! Sounds like a benefit for me then, to have the radiator out then to replace the front motor mount. Good Deal! :thumb:
