I am now having the dealer replace my PCM. A week ago I tried to restore the car to factory tune. At the end of the process the tuner displayed "download failed". LMS directed me to SCT who accessed my tuner and loaded new files. Tried the download again with he same results. Had the PCM removed and sent it to SCT at their request. They could not recover it. They have agreed to pay to replace my PCM, up to the cost of what they could buy one for. Any ideas on how the tuner could have completely disabled my engine controller?

Could've been a surge voltage from the tuning device to the PCM? PCMs do fail on these vehicles all on their own, could have had faulty components to begin with. Does your SHO stay outside, how many times were tunes uploaded to the PCM?

Tunes were loaded less than 10 times. The SHO stays in the garage at night and was inside a lab at 72 degrees when the fault occured.

Hmm. I suppose an accidental disconnect of the tuning device could "brick" the PCM. Will they replace the tuning device as well? Just to be on the safe side.

I'm always nervous of the same when loading tunes.
Is there s limit as to how many times you can change the tune?

No known limit, but that's because noone has any idea what tolerances these parts are built to other than ruggedization for automotive applications. In some mfr's products, even the OBD port is very flimsy!

SCT has agreed to pay what they could buy the PCM for plus the labor. I sent them the bill today. Just under $1,200. They reset and unlocked the tuner. I have a LMS MyCal device now. I will have to work up the courage to put in the 3 bar MAP and tune the new PCM.
