Well, changing the brakes made 0 difference as far as the noise is concerned. I did notice something peculiar. The noise is not repeatable with no weight on the wheels, and it completely goes away when I merge or turn left. It is immediately worse when turning right. Does that make any sense?

I've had noises like that with a bearing going bad due to a loose nut. (not behind the wheel :) ) Reused the spindle nut too often and it didn't hold torque. The noise would go away when turning one direction. You mentioned you had a little play in the left bearing. Have you replaced it (or checked torque on it) yet?

It was the passenger side bearing that had minor play. I can check the torque other than standing on it because my wrench only goes up to 150ft/lbs but I can see if it loose. If it is the bearing it'll be the second bearing I've replaced in 30k miles

It was the hub and bearing. Even though I could have sworn it was a drivers-side issue, turns out the hub had worn down and allowed slop on the inner race causing the bearings to fail. This was the passenger side. It makes sense in retrospect, just really disappointed I couldn't figure it out.
