Does anyone know of any good roof racks for the taurus (98 style body)?

I am interested in purchasing a kayak and want to mount it on top of the roof.

I looked all over the net but couldn't find one. I bought this car for 2k from my dad and just want to be able to transport a kayak, so I am not interested in spending 10k+ on a truck or SUV just so I can transport a $300 kayak.

I have a friend with a pair of saris 59in load bars that will fit on any 96+ SHO, you would just need to get the proper clips from Saris and the kayake mounting brackets.

I had a saris roof rack on my 94, for bikes and snowboards, and I loved it. Prolly the fastest rack on the market for putting on and taking off very quickly, cause it is self centering when you tighten them down.

I just checked with him and he's willing to sell them as he just bought a Forrester XT and that has a built in rack.

http://www.saris.com/products/loadbarset.htm is the link to thier page about the load bars, and thier main site is at http://www.saris.com

they usually go for about $125 or so used on ebay for just the load bars. I'll have to aske him tomorrow when we go mountain biking. figure even at $125 plus the clips to fit your car and the kayak saddles you'll prolly pay sub $200 delivered when you buy all the parts you need.

You'll need clips #24 four of them. Can usually be found on ebay for about $20-$25, then a kayak saddle kit which will run you about $35-55 on ebay.

he and I would put his 2 touring kayakes on the roof of his wife's jetta with 2 sets of these http://www.saris.com/products/watersportsaddle.htm He snagged his used off ebay, cause they are a little pricey new
