So, I was thinking today while I was driving somewhere. I just looked at the pics of Chris's blown 92 with the Rickety(?) hoop. What if someone took and made a solid rear strut tower brace, and had some kind of mount for cross bars, that could bolt to the Rickety hoop. Take out the back seat and bolt the cross bars in, and then you would have the center of the car, connected to the rear strut towers.

Does this make any sense, or am I just dreaming again?

If you look at the top of the Roll bar there are some tabs. At these tabs there are two more bars that go down and attach to the Unibody underneath where the rear seats are when they are removed.

They are removable so that you can also havepeople sit in the back.

Also what you can't see is the bar that runs along the floor, this is once again another stabilizer bar.

I would be willing to let some one measure for specs. But i will not be held accountable for any patents that Rickety Enterprises has on the bar, even if there are any. I also possess the original intructions of bar installation.

Your idea makes alot of sense, but i don't know if its quite neccesary with the way the current rickety bar is setup.

I'm ahead of you Chris, or would be, if my Rickety were here already.

I've spoken to Eric at Rickety about it - he won't make the bars at less than 10 qty (not cost-effective). So, I've asked someone local to take some measurements for possible 1-2 pc duplication in the future.

I'm also going to be looking at door protection (welded, I think) for the 91 as well.

I see the middle setup clearly and the tabs for rearward supports. Is there a piece for the front of the car I'm missing? Isn't there usually at least a hoop or something around the roofline in the front of the cabin?

What are the track requirements for roll cages? Has anyone looked into duplicating the front loop that were on the Bondurant cars?

There are different cages, designated by their connection points. The most common are 8, 10, and 12 point. I believe Chris' is a 10 pt, which would not have the roof hoop.

Fred,

I'm also beginning to look into this too. Any idea what the duplication will cost you? I'm needing one for my gen1.

I'm pretty sure the Ricketty cage is a 4-point cage. I've never seen on in person though. The points of a cage are the places where the cage is attached to the floor of the car. So since the Ricketty cage is attached to the car on both sides of the B-pillar and 2 points under the rear seat, it adds up to 4 points. IF the Ricketty cage had diagonal door bars, it would then be a 6-pointer, add more connection points and the number goes up. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, this is the understanding I've had of how a cage gets its name. Or do the points just refer to where 1 bar is attached to another?

No you are right, it's where it attaches to the body. A 4 pt would be more of a roll bar with a support (2 rear bars to). A "cage" would typically include door bars, A pillar bars, halo, etc

The one in my 89 is technically an 8 pt, although it actually connects to the body in 13 spots. We tried to tie it into every place it could, on the way to it's actual anchor place. The more places you can pick up, the stiffer it'll be...

Mark I know youve been busy with the car, but any pictures would be great!

Most groups (NASA, SCCA, NHRA, etc) are going to make you mount back of the seat to the main hoop. Otherwise, you take the chance of backing the car into the wall, and sending you and the seat towards the trunk, which can result in your head/helmet rolling around in the floor (no longer attached to your neck).

Was at limerock at the end of last year, and was talking to a track guy there who was talking about that just happening there, to a guy in a Porsche.
