Rod Bearing project "92 SHO"

So I'm in the process of doing the rod bearings in my SHO and according to procedure ..it says that you can turn the wheel to turn the engine while the car is in gear to bring down each piston rods to remove the caps to replace the bearings so I've tried that and when I turn the wheels the spin freely without turning the engine so now I'm confused of how to actually get the motor to turn ????

You can get a socket on the crank pulley bolt and turn it with some strong extensions and cheater pipe. I would use 1/2" sockets and extensions and I buy 5ish foot pipe from the plumbing section at home depot/lowes-- place the ratchet or breaker bar inside the pipe and use the leverage to turn about anything. Make sure you have enough extension clearance from the body of the car so you don't mark up the sheet metal.

well, you need the trans in gear and a wavetrac type diff for that to work. with the stock open diff, you will just spin one wheel one way and the other will spin the opposite way and the engine will not turn.

I just put a wrench on the crank sprocket.

That's exactly what it's doing both wheels spinning opposite directions ...so I'll go the crank route now which way should I turn the cranks clockwise or counter ?

yes, but its a lot easier if the wheel and fender liner are off. if the wheel is on, you have to do it from above.

what I would do is turn it till the bearings at one end or the other is accessible, and then work from one end to the other. that way you don't mess up and miss one...

Go slowly and triple check your work. **** the bearings and rod journals with assembly ****. Oil on the rod bolts and nuts. Use either rod bolt covers, or small lengths of fuel line to cover the rods to prevent nicking the crank. A magic marker or paint pen can be useful for keeping track of your work. I also recommend test fitting the oil pan before finally assembly to get the right angle for install. This way you won't fight it and smear your RTV or shift the end seals.

Im guessing the old bearings were really worn cause the new bearings are a lil larger

I finished up changing the bearings yesterday ...the procedure says disconnect the DIS and start the engine for like 10secs until the oil light goes off what are they saying ? Turn the key for 10secs?
