These Porsche guys just don't know what to do with a 4-door Family car.

http://youtu.be/qnm_TIeMQqk

This one was first run on Saturday, Group 4.

This is second session, Group 4.

Third session, Group 4.

First session on Sunday, Group 4.

http://youtu.be/Nik3xN3kPoI

This was Sunday in Group 3 (Pedestrian). I came down for the call of Group 4 and felt a thump in the brakes. I new it was a broken rotor, so back up the hill I went for an emergency rotor change. I missed Group 4, so they let me out in Group 3.
Watch to the end and the last lap. I'm catching a Porsche 914. When she comes out from under the bridge she sees the checkered flag and FRIKEN STOPS. I was a clear coat's width from punting her into the outside retaining wall.

Watch this one to the end too. I got run down by a Cayman that was clearly faster than me. He caught me on the back straight, followed me thru T10 and then down the hill into T12. I moved over to the right and gave him a point on the outside. I gave him plenty of room. He should have passed me and made T1. I would have pulled in right behind him and followed him up the hill. Didn't quite happen like that. He got to the front fender and blew his braking point. He locked a tire and had to go straight. I heard this and took the apex and continued on. I thought everything was cool, but boy, was he ******. No harm done I guess.

Love it, always have.

The elevation changes are wild. Down the back straight you're climbing and climbing, then the track drops out from under you. You can see the horizon of the track, you can see the things on the other side of the track, but you can't see where the track goes, then you pop over the hill and you're looking at this 200' downhill run to a 90* left hand turn. The pucker factor is very high at that point. I'm going from 125 mph to 50mph in about 120ft. The drop into T12 is the same except that you have to have the stones to keep the throttle pinned. You can't see the track in front of you until its too late. When you've got the car in the right place, it just feels wrong.. The turn-in is off camber and as you pull the wheel, the track cones back to you.

T5 has to be my favorite. I launch the car over the gator at T3 and pin the throttle thru T4. I breathe the trottle to setting up for the Esses and pin it again thru the switchback turns. I'm headed into the braking zone at almost 100mph. I bounce off the right side gator, crank the wheel left and pin the throttle again. It's a very cool thing to drift a 4-door family car up the hill and drive it over the gators at track-out.

Best time so far is 1:48. Most laps we're in the 1:50's, but that's still getting it done.

VIR is next weekend. Don't let me be the only SHO Killin' it there. Incredible place, awesome track. I crank out 2:20's there. For those that have been there, I'm petitioning the track owners to rename the Uphill Esses to The SHOPLEX, 'cause I OWN that part of the track.

How many times did you almost go off in '99 for the Convention? That was my first track day ever and just remember dirt flying! haha

What is the future of RoadAtlanta? Is it sticking around? Have you done many days at the new track?

Yeah, I remember Eric following me up the hill after T1. I was watching him and he was watching me. Neither of us was watching the track. Oh yeah, there's T3 up there at the top of the hill. OFF WE WENT! I still have GA clay in my subframe from that experience.

Road Atlanta should be there for a good long time. They do observe a long quite time on Sundays and I think they have made friends with the folks around them.

We'll see. I'm hoping the AMP goes down in flames.

Yeah, that was wild.

What's the deal with AMP? Were they trying to take advantage of the political struggles of RA? Or is it just a bad, or badly run, track?
