I recently got everything back together. Been driving daily since Monday. Friday I noticed a muffled ringing sound from the accessory belt section (at idle).
When I put everything back together, I speculated if I was getting the alternator tensioner pulley too tight. If I did, would that cause the noise?

Also, is it normal for the alternator to generate heat at startup? I could feel a good amount of heat with my hand close to it.

Sounds like the alternator bearings may be under-performing and due for replacement soon.

Use a stethoscope to determine exactly the source of the noise.
