Does the offset need to be 42mm or is there a range. Here is the the info on the rims I wish to purchase. 17x7 5-108 35C. The price is right and they look awesome.

With 7.5" rims you probably want to back the offset down to around 38mm or so. But you might not need to. Depends on the width of the tire. If you are going 235 or wider, then you probably want the smaller offset, get the tire further away from the strut.Steve Dionne said:

Roman, the wheels he listed were 17x7, not 17x7.5 (the 5x108 mm bolt pattern listing was a run-together, apparently).
The smaller the positive offset (+35mm), the farther away from the strut, and closer to the fender you're going to be. Key thing is to look at the wheel AND tire you're going to use. If you're staying with a 225-wide tire, you may have no issues, but if you're going to a 235 or 245 wide tire, you may have problems with the fender clearance. It also will depend on your suspension lowering, if any.
FWIW, I'm running 17x7 +40mm (from memory) offset wheels with 235/45-17 Toyo Proxes T1-S on my car. If you want to come out to the shop in Spencer some night or weekend, I'll let you test fit that combo, so you have a better idea of how it's going to fit. The extra 5mm is about .200" difference. I also will have some 17x8 wheels with 245/45-17 tires from my 91 available for fitting if you like.

Thanks fellas. As usual, extremely helpful. I'll probably stick with the 225's but I like the idea of 245's.(Not much of a selection for 235's) I'm looking to get either Kuhmo ECTSA's or Falken Ziex's. These will be summer rims and tires only. Thanks for the offer Fred

I ran 245x17 Kumho Ekasta 712Zs on my 8" wheels, which are, I believe, 40 offset, and had no touches for either the strut or the fenders. They are an OK summer only tire for the cost, though they do not transition well in switchbacks and really like to follow road cracks. I suggest, if you get them, keeping the pressure high, since it seems to help with the less than optimally stiff side walls.
