Anyone ever have a problem with a slight clunking noise in the rear of the car. It sounds like its coming from the rear strut or maybe a bushing back there. It ussually does it around sharp turns and on bumps. My old mocha 91 used to do the same thing but i didnt have it long enough to get annoyed by it. I just figured this might be a common issue.

Sounds like it could be what I'm dealing with right now, broken top strut mount. It only clunks over big bumps such as train tracks, potholes etc.

rear suspension noise

the end links tend to make noise with any minor bump, and these are easy to check -- just crawl under and shake them a bit. often there is movement at the juncture of the swaybar and end-link.

also check the swaybar-to-body bushings and mounts.

if these check out, also check the tension strut (metal rod that points forward from the spindle) this should be nice and tight at the spinde and forward where it connects to the frame.

that being said, my guess is the rear strut mount. mine 89SC used to clunk around a bit, esp. on bouncing turns. rest of the suspension was tight. finally replaced rear strut assembly and sound went away.

In addition to what has already been stated above, the nut on the strut shaft may have loosened. No matter, the rear strut must be removed from the car to examine several of these sources.
