I just got back from VT the other day. If I was closer i'd go, then again I just blew a strut so i'm not driving it. Back to boring for the mean time. With a name like that it's probably awesome.

I might be in for something like this if we can get a group together. I still haven't driven the Kanc, or any of those nice roads really.

There is a really nice restaurant near the end of the highway that has the best elk around. Also if anyone is into golfing, great courses and my personal preference of chip and put. (or sip and puff) which again is my preference.

Do not enter the hairpin turn at 95mph in a rented Porsche.
Eh, it's not as raw as it used to be. It's been graded and repaved.

One of my good friend's family had moved to Barre, VT from MA and his fiance lived in Maine. The Kancamagus Highway was the best way to cut across and I followed him in my '92 as he drove his Saab 9000 Turbo. One of the best drives I ever had.

But now, it's a tourist trap with many pulloffs and vista points and the road "improvements" have made it uninspiring.

However, it does lead you to the new best road: Bear Notch Rd. It leads you from the Kancamagus up to Rte 302 near Attitash Mountain. At the Nashua Convention, I took Kurt Metros and Dan Vienke up that way and it's a blast although, at the time, it needed to be repaved. I drove it again late that fall and it was repaved. MUCH better.

Since I decided not to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and go to see the race in Darlington tonight, I'm anxious to get out and drive. I came up with a route for the Nashua Convention that takes in a number of great roads in the area including the Mount Washington mountain road, Rte 113 along the ME/NH border and Hurricane Mountain Rd.

We could make it a full day and have dinner in Conway.

This sounds great. I haven't been up that way in years. Let's set something up and make sure Kirk stops working for a day and joins us.
