I noticed today that the engine will rev up on its own. It did this a few times today while I was running it. I hope its something simple. I'm still working the bugs out of it, its been parked for a year.

Does this happen in gear or at idle? Is it an ATX or an MTX? Does it run rough when it happens (like rich or lean)? And finally, have you checked for codes?

Could be you need to reset the idle program or could be the IAC....

Does it hunt for idle at all? Is this when you are coming to a stop? Or simply at idle? We need as much information as you can give in order to help you more. wink

So far its only done this at an idle. I started the engine after setting for almost a year, it idles smooth until it revs up, then it idles down to a normal idle. It has a manual trans. I haven't had a chance to run it down the road yet, I need to finish working on the trans and shifter. Could it possibly be the old gas in the tank? I'm sure I'm going to have plenty of bugs to workout before I can put it back on the road.

You can't really figure too much out before you drive the car on te road. You can try cleaning the IAC as was suggested before. While the car is parked, why don't you remove the intake and clean the whole deal. That can solve many problems that you may find down the road.
