Ok so I went to the local parts store and they want a ridiculous amount of money for the backup light switch. Does anyone know what other car I could get it out of from a junkyard?

You might want to try and get yours working again. It threads in and there is a captive ball on the end of the threaded part. Your shifter pushes that ball backwards into the component and activates the light. The wire end is a round /ovalish connector with 2 pins down inside it, that your male connector on your harness fits into.
Airtex/ Wells 1S5318 is around $40.00 (which is good because one number up for an ****** is more than 2X that).
Nothing else seems to fit... Mustang etc.

AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 1S5318

I see what you mean by ridiculous. I just looked it up at Autozone and they want $81.99. F that.
