I was a napa to get some anerobic gasket maker and thought I would try and asked the guy if he had roll pins. so we go look in the bins under tension pins and found a 3/16 x1-1/2 tension pin. I got them for .33$ each will they work to replace the roll pins from the differential. they seem like they are the right size but are they strong enough to be replacements?

also the permatex anerobic gasket say to use a prep spray activator is this really necesary?

Get some stainless steel roll pins! Don't look for the first pins you can get your hand on, look for the SS ones, they'll hold up better! I wouldn't cheat yourself on the pins, for what they hold.

I used stainless steel 3/16" X 1.5" pins along with the reinforcement.

yea but stainless is softer than spring steel I thought and its not like I need to worry about rust they are submerged in oil.

how is your differential reinforced?

I would like to know more about how you did this. Where did you get the pins? Im presently rebuilding an old 89 tranny and Id like to beef up the stock diff as much as possible, along with anything and everything else I can do to prolong its life. PM me if you like.

thanks!

you should be able to find them any were look for them also alled tension pins. I still think that spring steel would better than stainless but I am not a chemist. but stainless is made to prevent corosion and that is not a probem here.

It's kinda hard to explain. If I could get someone to post my pic(s), then it'd be posted, but until then... I have no worries of my trans case being busted up again. Once you see, you'll prolly be convinced, too.

Roll pins...I bought them at a locally owned hardware store and still have some left.
