Well today my buddy called me over to help him finish up with his brakes. Everything was all set to go to start bleeding the brakes. Started with the right rear side and hey what do you know... brake fluid was coming out of the bleeder valve on the new caliper. Bad news was it started leaking out of the metal brake line on that side too.

When he changed out the brake hose on that side the brake line must have developed a crack in it. The line was all rusty and corroded where the line attaches to the frame via the clip there. So no he's got to change out the rear line from the hose to the proportioning valve.

We pulled the line out and with the slightest movement the line completely snapped apart where it was rusty. Now the other problem. The proportioning valve side has a bubble flare and the line that connects to the hose has an inverted flare. And the parts stores only carry lines with one or the other not a line with the bubble and inverted flares. So his girlfriends brother just took the hose with him to cut off one of the bubble flares on a dual bubble flare hose and is putting on the correct fitting. Then it's up to him to put the hose in and bend it properly.

Figures Ford would use two different flares on a single line. Not to mention all the other car manufactuers that do. So stupid... :madflame:

That sucks. So to replace the metal lines that go from the valve to the brake hose you have to basically bend your own tubing? I completely stripped out the heads of those flares when doing my lines. The things just rounded off with no force whatsoever with my wrench, I used vice-grips and was able to get them on with no leaks figuring I could go like that and maybe down the line change those out...
