ok guys this may sound kinda stupid but all the buttons are pushed in on my EATC and the light shining through looks ******. I have looked around but cant find another one in decent condition, seems like there all pushed in, I was curious is it a easy swap to swap in a regaulr taurus EATC with the dials and knobs instead of the digital ?? like my uncle has a 1992 GL on his farm that he said i can strip for parts and i was considering putting the dials for the AC/Heat in there instead of the electronic unit. Btw do the knobs and everything like all the settings, do they light up the same color bluish green that my dash lights up ?? If its possible.....but not easy, what are the steps i have to take to swap thse over? is there anthing i can do to hide the light?? maybe put electrical tape over the pushed in buttons ?

any help on this topic would be great

thanx in advance guys

I'm not sure how it all works out, but I do know that there are a few guys here on the forum that have that kind of control in their dash............that's about all I can tell you.

i think if it is knobs then it is done by hard lines and no electricity. or it could be done by vacuum. 72 torino=vacuum 03 outlander=hard lines. not really a taurus but its almost an industry standard

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. The EATC in the SHO uses vac lines.

To the original poster, I would replace your unit with a hardbutton unit. They come up for sale quite often. Check classified ads as well as ebay.

Maybe this is the wrong thread to post, but can you swap a manual climate control to an EATC in a 90-91? I'm sure if you wanted to do the swap, you'd want the other way around as the EATC is a PITA due to the electronics of it, blend door, cracked buttons. Is it better to just keep manual controls if they're already in there?

If you can get a faceplate off a Mark VII or VIII EATC, the ones with the fancy-lookin' buttons, you can take it and solder it into the main body of the Taurus EATC. I've done it in mine, and it works absolutely perfectly. Looks much fancier than the 95 hard button, too. It's a pretty easy solder job, you just have to put slits in the ribbon cable to widen it out some.

Didn't some 89s come with the manual controls? I've also seen several Gen 2's with them (that were for sale), so I'm sure its doable.

Some 89s came with manual, lots came with EATC but it looks different than the 90-91 and 92-95 type. It is one unit but looks like 2 separate vertical rectangles and a ****....one includes your controls...max a/c, floor, etc., the middle one has your small temp. reading window with the red and blue heat and cool buttons, and the 3rd is the round override fan speed ****. EATCs always look cooler but for functionality, the manual controls are better because it's less crap to break and we all know Ford electronics suck.

I think there's a sticky where a guy on here is showing off his LED interior. His EATC looks like it came off a Lincoln. It's different than the SHO's....has larger buttons and the LED display is smaller. It's under this topic but under "Performance Upgrades". I don't know if that's a Lincoln EATC but looks like one. It will work w/ the SHO with some modification it looks like.

My old '89 had the eatc and I actually have an EATC unit for in a box here but I will never change to it.
