i just did the '96 upgrade on the front brakes and when i wire wheel brushed the brake shield on the driver's side alot of rust holes popped out. still works for now but it's definitely on it's last leg. the shield on the pass side appears newer and is held in place with bolts while the driver's side is riveted into place. what's better and where do i get a new dust shield? TIA

Mine are long gone. IMO if your not running on gravel roads or the likes there not that important. Plus you will get better brake cooling with them off.

Leave 'em off.

I have a big stack of 'em in my garage that have been removed from my SHOs and others. They are there to keep some heat off the suspension components, but they hold heat in the brake parts.
