How hard is it to swap out coil packs and plugs? I have a misfire on 2 cylinders, and I am pretty sure I have a coil pack going out. The car has almost 100k on it.

I just went down to the shop, and they want $700 to do the coil packs, and another $250 in labor just for plugs.

I am selling the car, but I am not going to get anything for it without a tune-up.

5,6,7,8 cylinders are easy as pie to do. Just remove four or so bolts on the vanity coverf and they are right there. Might take half hour for all plugs and coils in front. The ones in back are a different story, the intake needs to be pulled. Ive neve done this myself. Might want to have ford run a power balance test, i think thats what its called, and they can tell you the two that are misfiring. Might cost like 80 bucks, but if pinpoint the two you want. Save you a ton of money if the happen to be up front.

Good luck

You can order cheap coils from the Murray's chain in the mid-west. About $65-70 a coil. Plugs are at worst $8 a piece but can be had cheaper from online sources.

The job isn't really that bad even for someone like me who is barely competent at car repairs. I used the info on the v8sho.com website and some help from forum and mailing list members.

I want to jump in on this one too. Mine is missing at idle now. Not all the time, but pretty consistant. Also when I go to accelerate it hesitates a little, like maybe it's a little flooded or something Could it be the coil packs? Seems like it's fine under acceleration and cruising. Check engine light is on too, but I assume that's due to the miss.
