I am just wondering if after I install the sensor if the car should start up or if you have to drive the car long enough to reset the computer?

Unless you disconnected the battery, there is no EEC learning curve with the CID sensor replacement. The only EEC reprogramming is done at idle after the first engine start after the battery was disconnected. You have 70 seconds to add the accessory loads the engine will see at idle (shifter to drive (ATX), A/C, headlights, turn steering wheel).
