How do I separate the right hand outer MTX half shaft from the inner half half shaft?

I have already revomed the knuckle, the strut assembly, and the lower control arm.

I need to replace the bushing on the lower control arm. Do you replace the entire unit or buy the bushings and replace them yourself? It looks as if I need a special tool.

If I replace the knuckles from a 95, can I use my original 93 rotor and caliper?

Help.

Jose...you should be able to separate it by prying it apart. If you are replacing the half shafts just "pop" it by pulling the shaft like a slide hammer. If you have problems just remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the carrier berring/inner shaft to the ALT bracket. It should come out of the tranny easily. This also allows you to inspect and or replace the half shaft seal if needed.

Also..the bushing on the lower control arm is not servicable. You have to buy the lower control arm assmbly. If you are replacing it due to a torn boot clean all the grease off of it and apply som black RTV and let sit overnight. Once its dry you can use a needle and inject new grease into the boot.

Also the '93 calipers wont work on the '94-95 knuckles. You will have to upgrade to the '96 calipers or PBRs.

I don't want to pull it out of the tranny since I did replace the seal when I installed the Quaife.

I will try to pop it out.

Thanks.

A prybar can separate the driveline from the halfshaft. Or, as suggested, the halfshaft and driveline can be removed as an assembly. If you do this carefully you won't have to replace the output shaft seal. I've routinely pulled and replaced mine without changing the seal.

Sometimes they are hard to separate, so pulling the halfshaft is an option. Drain a little fluid out of the tranny before doing this, though, or you'll get a lot on the garage floor.

OK, I got both axles out. I had drained my tranny before since I have a drain plug.

I was using RedLine hp transmission fluid, but I was not happy with how it made the transmission shift.

When I put it back together I will try the Royal Purple.

Thanks.

Great "How to do" page, Dr.Tweak, it would have made my work easier if I had read it before I started to the work.

Thanks. It will help in putting everything back together.
