Well mine would have to be rebuided, but even then it would probably be a waste of time. Basically, some how, a lash shim was missing or got pushed down into a valve lash bucket. I really have no clue how what why where, as far as I can tell, from my exquisite care of replacing them or what was needed..... One is down in the bucket, or one got popped out; the funny thing is I can not find one that was in it originally, or in it as the replacement one.....

Any ways I have decided to swap the head with another 3.0....

I have a gasket set for the fuel rail, and I will if possible just use a head with header on it, to avoid some hanous situation like a exhaust leak from screwed up gasket. (Who has never had that when bolting on manifolds or headers, ugh) I will order a new camshaft seal, maybe a CID just because I can.... The most obviouse, a gasket for the head.

I plan to purcahse a helms for this, but as some of you have probably done it, I would like to have any special tips at hand.

Will I be able to do all of this with out removing the timing belt from the bottom pully, I just put all of that back togather.... I was hoping just remove the camshaft sprockets, and the plate behind them.

Is there any kind of gasket I need for any thing down inbetween the heads that I can not see?

They are not torque to yeild, so you can reuse them. Fel-pro makes a set of head bolts if you really want to spend $40.

Any idea who sells them?
FelPro makes a head-bolt kit, which you might want to pick up for peace of mind (AZ, Advanced), however, the stock head bolts can be re-used, as they are not torque to yeild and should not stretch out. Just check them with a straight edge to verify true.

So tell me, you ejected a shim? I dont understand exactly what you are saying, you cant find out where it went? Have any pics? Im thinking you could problably get by with pulling the cam and swapping in a good bucket then shimming it back up - the buckets should just pull out by hand or with a little magnet.

The bucket is stuck in the head. I would replace the valve guide, which is more work then just swapping the head, because there could be metal chippings. Let me see if I can explain the shape the bucket is in, it is ****** like some one chewed on it.

I have no idea where the shim went, if I put it in or not.... I simply can not account for where it is, in any way. I have no idea if it came out and fell down some where or what....

So the bucket is so damaged its wedged in there in the guide. I suspect the damage is from the cam?

If you had not put a shim in there you would have heard a very loud clackity clack when running. Might have broken the shim, tho I have never heard of this. Get some pics!

I have no way to get pictures right now.

I have no idea if I put a shim in or not.... I heard the snappy click when the car was running, every thing else was perfect except that... I prayed it was an exhaust leak or some thing simple. I knew it was not, so I tore every thing apart and found a bucket that looked bad, and cam, tried to put in a shim, bucket got stuck with a shim in it when I tried to turn it over..... I was hoping it the bucket would come loose after going down and up, but it only went down.

torque specs: 2 sequences... 37-50ft. lbs. and the last torque is 60ft. lbs.

All you need to do is make sure you replace the gasket at the water crossover tube, and then the o-rings on the long tube that runs inbetween the valley in the engine. We just buy the single head gaskets instead of the pair. If you need the gaskets and o-rings and stuff, let us know.

Make sure you get the engine on top dead center before you pull the camshaft sprocket off. And it might take 2 of you guys to put the timing belt and sprocket back on at the same time to keep the timing in place.

I have a tool for lining up the sprocket :)

I already got a head from some one else, however I could use some fel-pro numbers for head bolts and gaskets for all the water passages. URL's work too.

Lemme guess, your head looks something like this:

Not quiet like that cause it was only for a few seconds, but it would of ended up looking bad, not exactly like that, but it would of been bad. The sides of the cam had a chewed spot, it could be re-used, but it would probably wear on shims faster...

The real question is, if I rebuild the the head's valve assembly, will the bucket and every thing function corrently? The head is off the car, and a very small bump to the valve popped the bucket back up out. I would have to throw a net bucket in obviously.
