Replace solenoid, no start

So as I was doing all of the work to the '91 SHO I just purchased, I accidentally cracked the starter solenoid. One of the studs broke off but I got it to stay on for a short time until I could get a replacement. I went out to start the car today to go get the new solenoid, and all I get is a click, then nothing.

I get the new solenoid, and install it, but when I turn the key I get fuel pump priming, then click again, and then everything in the car goes dead. did I blow a fuse somewhere, or is this a dead batt? I am charging the batt. now, but After 1 1/2 hours on the charger, it did the same thing. After 10-20 secs, the clock will come back on, but everything in the car is dead for a short time when I turn the key forward. Nothing works at all for that short time.

Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and I checked the solenoid on my '89 SHO, and it works fine on that car, so it is not a defective part.

It very well could be a loose and or dirty connection on the battery or any other connections from the battery to the starter. I would say first thing is to clean and snug up all connections and try again.

is that little tiny wire on the solenoid hooked up? Did you check the wires on the starter?

wires are all tight, little wire on the S-stud is also connected.

Batt. wires are fine.

Like I said, I put it on the '89 and it fired right up with it. Anything else besides loose wires?? I am at a loss.

I find the fact that everything goes dead for a few seconds weird. but the fuel system primes before I go to start (slowly turning the key forward)

I would say a connection could be still dirty, I have seen it happen before. especially on the battery posts.

Maybe I should also say that the car was firing up perfect before this happened and I had to change the solenoid. Making the loose connection very unlikely, although I am going back out to check them all for the 4th time.

Found the problem....one of the fusible links went. I must have grounded it when I was removing the old solenoid. I replaced it, and presto, starts up normally again.
