I'm thinking about striping my Slicers and repainting them or powdercoating them. What kind of paint would you suggest?? I have a smaller airgun to use and a air compressor. What would you use to strip the wheels. I will also have to repaint the center caps. I was thinking like a really smooth black, not something shinny though.

go with gunmetal, it's real easy to do with duplicolor wheel paint and the clear that goes with it.

Word of advice, unless you're getting new tires, mask them off pretty good, mine look kinda wierd. Just spray 3 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. Paint comes in a couple other colors too. Scuff them up real good, clean with tack cloth, and spray. Let the paint dry for 5-10 mins between each coat and preferably, let them cure for at least 24 hours before reinstalling. Good luck,

Paul

Don't go with gun metal... Now I don't even want it because everyone else is doing it.

But you've got to admit, your gunmetal looks very different from mine. That's the beauty of powdercoating. Mine look nice for about $15 bucks in materials, but yours are a work of art for a bit more money. To each his own I guess.

Well, then I guess neither of us can complain. I'm happy with 15 bucks worth of effort and money, and your not out of any money. At least, if you wanted to change the color, you could do it for about 15 bucks.

Well I'm looking to paint them the color of yamahaSHO and don't really have the money to get them powdercoated. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get the old paint off and to the point where I can paint them. Thanks!

scotchbrite. Just scuff away. That is if you're gonna do paint. I don't about Powdercoating. Also, the paint I used is meant for painting wheels. Otherwise you may need to do the sanding, primering, and painting steps. I went the simple and cheaper way. I'm very happy with my results. Good luck,

Paul

When I had mine powdercoated, I was told that the wheels are powdercoated from the factory.... I don't know if that is true or not, but it was not the first time I had heard that.

Yeah, I heard that somewhere on these boards too, but I couldn't tell you. All I know is that the paint stuck pretty good when I sprayed mine. My only complaints about using paint is (and I don't know if this is an issue with powdercoating or not) that removing the center caps with a flat-head screwdriver can dig into the paint if you're not careful. I should have had my wheels balanced before painting since the guy at Bridgestone/Firestone obviously didn't care that I painted them. He even DROPPED one of the center caps when removing it, while I was watching too. I was kinda ******.

Anyways, either way you do it, I'm sure you'll be happy with gunmetal.
Later,

Paul

guys, one very important question to those who have gotten their slicers powdercoated-

do i have to remove the tires before they paint them, i mean does the shop that does the painting take the rubber off and put it back on for you, or do i have to go elsewhere and spend more money to have the tires put back on and the wheels balanced?

thanks.,

Read your post again.. you ask for people who got powder coating, than ask about painting.

YOU MUST HAVE YOUR TIRES OFF FOR POWDER COATING!! They put them in an oven. You will most likely have to remove the rubber yourself.

Even if painting, take your tires off.

I agree, take the tires off, I didn't and now my tires look goofy because I didn't get them totally masked. I wish I had taken the wheels off, but I didn't really have the resources. I didn't have a set to use in the meantime.

I painted my wheels gunmetal as well, what I did to protect the rubber was to put wheel bearing grease over it, it kept the paint from sticking and you could just wipe it right off.
