its still on but the y pipe is disconnected, shouldn't it just lift right out?

Edit: What holds on the pipe that runs to the back of the water pump? looks like this is connected somehow. should i have to take the coil pack off, i thought it lifted out together. how about the alternator?

The water pump vally tube is not attached to the head. The alternator bracket is attached to the front head. Did you remove the thermostat back housing?

thermostat housing, sits next to the cam chains on the front head correct. what holds it on. does the coil pack have to be removed to take off the thermostat housing?

I would remove the coil pack bracket with the coil pack attached. There are 2 bolts that hold the thermostat housing to the front head. You will see them when you remove the coil pack.

Thanks everyone. i got it off, it was the thermostat housing where it connects to the housing on the back head. BTW, the alternator bracket DOES NOT need to be removed to take off the front head.
