I did so, and to my surprise, the bolt is only approx. ONE inch long (w/ only 1/2 inch of thread)
Is this true? I assumed this was a rather long bolt seeing how it holds some of the internals in place.
Obviously, I am either WRONG, or my tranny was serviced by an IDIOT in the past.

The internal part that the interlock bolt attaches to is just inside the case so it doesn't need to be that long. I've seen many bolts being substituted for that bolt however, if you would like a pic of a correct bolt to make sure the proper one is being used send me a PM and I'll be glad to take a pic of one for you.

thanks for the assurance :thumb:

btw, I changed to Pennzoil Synchromesh (same p/n as the GM product). About 2 quarts drained out of the said bolt. I added the Synchromesh with a long tube thru the engine bay. After adding about 2 quarts, the fill hole started overflowing with what was left in there (red in color... the synchromesh is brown) I kept adding until the fluid coming out of the fill hole turned brown. Does the synchromesh weigh more than ATF fluid... going straight to the bottom? I assume so.
