In order to clean the "yellow" off of the headlights, I need to remove the plastic headlight assembly - How do I do this?

Not difficult at all. There are a couple of bolts on the top of the core support. These are the bolts that are obviously for the headlights right on top. Then, you'll have to lay down and reach behind the bumper and find the lower bolts (at least this is how you do it on a Gen I; I would assume Gen 2's are similiar). FWIW, I've never had the headlights off my '93, but have pulled and replaced several Gen 1 headlight capsules.

There are three clips that need to be pulled up and off. Two on the top and one on the bottom IIRC. It can be a RPITA. The use of a angled clip too helps.

as paul said, three clips. i sugest poping the holding clips off the bottom most clip and bending out the to two for easy access. i can have my head lights off in 10 secs and they are still very tight with the clips on. been like that since 99. thumb

Damn, I looked and looked at my headlights when I took them off but could find no easy way. I ended up taking off the entire headlight carrier panel. headbang And it was a RPITA. rant

Even then, those little sheet-metal clipettes that hold the headlamp onto the carrier were fragile and I broke 2 of 'em off. doh

A nice pair of 90deg external circlip pliers seem to be the cat's ass when doing this. BUT it's like friggin' OPERATION (the old school game) to simultaneously spread the clip and slide it off between its lands without letting one side or the other hang in the next slot - you'll see. Basically, you need to free the headlight up from its 3 adjusters.

When I did it, I used Chilton's and pulled off entire headlight assembly - I'm not sure this wouldn't be the best way to do it the first time, so you can SEE what it all looks like back there. This may be more time-consuming, but less likely to break something out of frustration...FWIW.

Remember - make it fun! :D

After taking off the whole headlight carrier panel, I did the 90-degree Circlip® plier thing and broke off both tips. rant

But at least my headlights now look good as new. No more yellow. :D :D

I took a large flat washer and cut a slot in it to replace the clips.
