Can this be done? I'm pretty sure it can. Just wanting to make sure as its getting time to get rid of the parts car(no room) and don't want to have to drop the subframe and then have to put it back just to roll it onto the trailer!

Yes i did it on mine. Its pretty simple. just unhook all hoses and connections to the motor. remove the intake for easier access. unbolt motor mounts and transmission mount. Put in the bolts for the support braket for your intake. Hook up a chain and a cherry picker and take her out with a little tender care.

Just for parts I would say its lots easer to lift the body off the sub frame than it is to lift the engine out. Either way lifting is going to be required, all you need to do to remove the whole sub frame is place jack stands under the sub frame and then unattach all connections and the struts from the strut towers, Then get under there remove or saw off the sub frame bolts. I choose the saw. Then lift the body up over the sub frame.

I could do it that way but I'm thinking of how to get it back on a trailer or dolly, that would require it being moveable.

What I did was drop the subframe with the whole drivetrain still mounted on top of an oversized dolley, jacked the car high enough, and rolled everything out from underneath.

I used 2 jacks. 1 to lift it high enough to put the second one underneath it on top of 4 4X4's, then jacked the second one and it was plenty high enough to clear.

ps. I jacked it from the radiator support. If your trying to do it neatly I suggest not jacking it there

I put the whole front of the car on the dolley afterwards and rolled it out in my street hahaha.

At the same time I was wishing I had a cherry picker. IMO its easier to take the whole motor/tranny out from the top. When you have nothing but a dolley you gotta get resourceful

If you really want to have fun doing it... The way I do Mustangs and other Fox chassis cars, is cut the top and bottom core supports. Grab the cherry picker - Quick and easy.

Yes you can do it out the top no problem, I wouldn't waste my time any other way.
I have pulled my MTX and engine out from the top without trouble. Just disconnect everything, pull axels, and double check. You'll be good to go.

MTX either bottom or top, doesn't really matter to me in terms of work but I prefer to take it out the bottom.

ATX really has to come out the bottom. A few people have done it out the top, but it adds several hours extra work to the job.

I took mine out from the bottom and put it in from the top. It was definately easier putting it in from the top. If I take it out again, it'll be from the top.

If i remember correctly, after the engine/tranny is unbolted from the car, 1 big person or two people can be able to lift the car over the subframe and all. You can push it wherever you want it to be pushed. :)
