Anyone out there know how to remove the back bumper on the SHO. I was told it was only held on by four bolts and that it was fairly straight forward but details would be good. The clips that hold my bumper on have been either pushed out of place or broken by someone who has rear-ended me. No visible damage to the bumper but now it bulges out where the clips have let loose. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brett

I know on my 89 it was pretty easy. I think there is either 4 bolts or 8 I can't remember. If you look up under there you will see. The bumper cover goes over that with those plastic clips. The bolts are on a flat ****** and in the center of that is a circular tubing. On the sides of the car there is something that holds it two but I can't recall off hand exactly what it is. I think its a little guiding stud or something (not important when taking off only when putting it back on). Good Luck

I pulled the rear bumper off to install my trailer hitch back in January 1991, so this is not a vivid memory. I believe there are three bolts on each damper mounting bracket even though there are four holes.

Very good, thanks for the input guys! I guess I will just get under my car on the weekend and start playing around with those bolts until my bumper comes off. I just can't stand looking at the gap between my bumper and the quarter panel anymore. Thanks again!

I know what you mean. My 94 ATX is doing the same thing. The newer SHO's 92-95, have 2 bumpers believei t or not. It is a regular Taurus bumper, color never the same (brown on my red one, and maroon on my green one). But there are 3 or 4 bolts on each bumper bracket, (often times break off, so be careful), and then the sides just slide into a track so to speak. I know with my 94 atx, the glue from the bracket to the inner regular bumper had come apart, and I have yet to find a glue tough enough to actually re-attach it........ LEt me know if you have any other problems, and what you do to re-attach... I have dealt with the 92-95 Gen II's a lot.... Good Luck! [email protected]

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but removing the rear bumper cover involves unbolting 3 bolts on each damper, and the plastic hold downs at the bottom of the wheel well correct? Thanks in advance!

No, just take the bolts off each damper, then pull the bumper straight back, the sides slide onto some studs, you'll see what i mean when you pull it off.
